    Will usb hard drives work with next gen consoles?


    I recently bought a WD easy store hard drive that is 1 TB end connects via USB. Would that expand my space on the new Xbox Series S and Series X? Microsoft advertises their new drive that can plug into the console but it’s $200 for the drive. Will any standard one like the WD drive work?

    Yes you will! If you have an external hard drive, transfer it to that, then, when you get your next gen console plug the hard drive into the USB port and transfer it from the external to the SSD hard drive that is in your new xbox to enjoy the speeds and
    benefits of the new console!

    No, you cannot use the hard drives for next gen games, basically the hard drives are too slow, so the next gen games would take too long to load. Previous gen games would work fine, as they are designed to work with hard drives such as the seagate game
    drive. Any game that is ported over to the Xbox Series X such as Control or the Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War would install to the internal storage or the consoles external ssd storage device if you had one.

    As USB 3.0 is the current standard I would suspect that the hard drive will function on the next gen console. It is an assumption as we still do not have full details as to what the console spec is, for that we will have to wait for an official announcement.

    One no matter what MECHANICAL drive you use it will never even come close to the needed spwess

    Your had is limited by USB which is 500mbps next gen consoles require 4.5.gbps. Not to mention next gen games have 4.8gbps on series consoles direct.access to cpu gpu and memory

    You cannot achieve this with USB or.mechanical drives you are limited by your 30 year old technology which is limited to 500mbps and going thru 3buses before getting to the cpu

    All next gen consoles require next gen storage for next gen games

    If you want you can run xbox one or older games that arent patched on hdds

    Or swap out your games for next gen storage

    You can store the games on ancient drives but can't run it on 500mbps

    Fyi it's 12x thr difference in speed not 10mbps

    You could purchase the 16gb Xbox version USB that is known to work, or check the reviews of the next one you purchase.
