The wire that came with my Xbox One controller has stopped working. I was wondering if this -

xbox one s has melted my phone charge wire

xbox one s (brand new) has melted my phone charging wire. the console was off and the wire plugged in at the back for 24hrs (usb to mini usb) phone was not plugged in when i noticed melted wire (phone end)

Are all Xbox One Controllers going to be Wireless?

Yes, but also no.

Every Xbox One controller is wireless. However, when you plug it in via USB it becomes wired and sends the signal via wire instead of wireless (while also charging batteries, if you are using the charge-pack - or in the case of your question, it's using the power via cable instead of the batteries).

This is in contrast to how Xbox 360 controllers work. X360 has both wireless and wired. An X360 wireless controller when plugged in via USB is still sending the signal wireless, but is getting power via the USB. This is why you can't plug an Xbox 360 wireless controller via USB into your computer and have it work, because the controller is still sending a wireless signal.

This makes the Xbox One controllers great for both Xbox One and PC gaming, because you don't need to buy a 'wired' controller for it to work on the PC, you can just plug it in via USB and it'll send the signal via USB instead. I'm really glad Microsoft did this.

Yes. The Xbox One controller uses a standard Micro-USB connector, the same as Android phones and other devices.

If you want to save a few more bucks, you can find plenty of those cables at the dollar store.

Any USB cable works in my controller (with or without battery or AA)for the headset works normally. Simply plug in the USB port of the console and controller. I believe it is some kind of wired mode. Where he turns off the wireless and works normally.

The play and charge kit for Xbone comes with a usb cord which turns it into a wired controller or if you buy just a standard pad any usb to mini wire works.

Tried connecting a USB keyboard then also down button not working, similar to directional button behavior.

did you unplug the wired controller when you tried the mouse and keyboard?

sometimes one of my wired controllers misbehaves like that and I have to unplug it before I can use my other controller.

I worked out that it was because of damage to the wire causing it to give incorrect inputs to the Xbox and a replacement USB lead was all I needed to fix the problem.

the answer is it is a wireless controller they dont work with the usb charging cable ive tried it on windows 7 and 10 you need a proper wired controller apparently.

That's true for 360 controllers, but not Xbox One. The Xbox One controllers work wired and via wireless on PC. My wiress controllers all work fine via the micro USB cable on my PC.

Windows 7 doesn't come with drivers built in to the OS though, they may need need to be downloaded manually if Windows update isn't picking up the controller.
