Will there ever be another "Gamertag Clearout"

all the good gamertags and ogs are taken and are not even used or on an xbox, will they ever be a reset.

They clear inactive gamertags out periodically. As Mad Cow Dizease said, some people started claiming and selling them. I believe one was done last year. If they were to do another one, it probably wouldn't be for a few years and gamertags would probably
be gradually re-introduced. Microsoft has not released any information about it at this time.

They're not scheduled. Microsoft retains the right to clear out gamertags inactive for roughly 7 years. They're almost entirely random now I believe. They were clearing out a bunch of inactive ones, but when people starting claiming then selling the original
ones, they've stopped.

 

How exactly would all gamertags be erased? If they were that would mean that either everyone was nameless or they just would use new names, which would eliminate the point of erasing everyone's names. Besides, a lot of paying customers would be mad. I'm
sure you can find a good gamertag to use. After all the amount of combinations a gamertag can consist of is equal to 37^15 =
3.3344627e+23.

 

Op is on about inactive gamertags,not ones that are in use.

They did it when they shut down xbox live for the original xbox but people were snapping up gamertags & then selling them so who knows if they'll do it again.

 

I guess I don't get the issue/obsession with gamer tags. Some people are in a 5-10 year virtual waiting list for a gamer tag that they check on regularly in hopes of someday having it for their very own. It's a serious head-scratcher. There almost needs
to be a special forum for these people, as gamer tags are apparently a incredibly huge deal to those that lack creativity for something original.

 

I have a feeling they wont delete any gamertags this time around. But who knows, they may delete inactive gamertags once the 360 is done for.

 

My gamertag is the result of when i tried to change my gamertag using my free gamertag change. it took ages but then i used this one. This is the gamertag that is right for me.

Also im sure the entire xbox 360 community would "love" a gamertag reset.

Note: when i mean "Love" i mean they will hate it

 

Its always possible i guess in the future maybe if or when they shut down the 360 servers if they do that but no idea if thats still a thing
