    Major Problem w/ Audio

You might want to make sure that the spot into which the optical cable is plugged in the TV is not actually an Optical OUT port - Optical Out isn't that uncommon, but optical in ports are not terribly common. If you have an Optical-In, make sure your cable
is plugged into the input that is paired with the Optical In. Most times, there will be several video-in ports, but only one audio-in for things like Optical or 3.5mm.

The reason you are unable to get audio while set to DVI is because DVI is a video-only protocol - HDMI carries both audio and video, but not DVI, which will then require a separate channel for the audio. You are on the right track with the optical cable,
we just need to figure out where your settings are missing the mark now!

  3. HDMI Video but no Optical Sound

I have my xbox one connected to an Pioneer AV Receiver (LX SC81). Up to this point I was using HDMI for sound and video with no problems. Ive just bought the Rocksmith guitar game and have read online that there is serious sound lag when using HDMI for audio.
Therefore, Ive connected an optical audio cable from the XBox to one of the AVR optical inputs.

When in the menu settings of the AVR, video from the xbox is turned off which is normal. When in the menu settings the xbox audio via optical works as i can hear the game audio coming through the speakers. When I come out of the menu in the AVR and video
returns, the sound cuts off. It seems I can have video (HDMI) or sound (optical) but not both?? Ive tried the Optical uncompresed stereo, bitstream DTS and DD.

If you're wondering if it comes with the cable in the box the answer is no, but it does have an optical audio out on the box.

Please don't feed the troll, he will start posting the same questions repeatedly and just word it differently each time. He has asked this question and been answered a few times already.

S/Pdif to RCA Audio Adapter for Xbox One

Xbox One has 2 outputs - one HDMI and one Optical Audio (s/pdif). HDMI carries both audio and video. But if you want to send your audio to a receiver that does not have HDMI inputs, then you can use the optical output from Xbox One. PS4 is exactly the
    same.

And William is right - if you try converting HDMI to DVI, you will lose the audio on both Xbox and PS4 (unless you are using the separate optical output for audio).

HDMI Video but no Optical Sound

Hi, thanks for the reply I'm not using a TV its an AVR and projector set up. I've set the audio out on the AVR for the Xbox to optical. Its the correct setting on the AVR because when the menu option is selected video from Xbox not working, the audio is
fine. Its only when I come out of the AVR menu and video returns that I lose the audio.

Ive used a sky HD box previously with this AVR and it was video over HDMI and audio over optical so i think its an xbox one issue.

    Xbox Audio->Reciever

It doesn't matter. Both the HDMI audio output and the optical audio output provide the same audio signal. While one is optical and one is electrical, both are digital and contain the same information.

The only thing you should worry about is if the receiver introduces any latency in the HDMI video path.

    Audio Problems

Does your TV have an optical input? Most have optical outputs to run sound out from the TV to an audio receiver, but I've never seen one with an optical audio input. If it does have an optical input, then yes, you should be able to. Why can't you have
video and audio over HDMI? Make sure you're set to 2.0 uncompressed if you're using a TV for sound.
