Will/Should Xbox Kinectless come with voice commands?

The problem with that Kingvas is these features are not Kinect features they are just microphone features

I own a Kinect and a PS Eye the voice commands on the Kinect don't work any better. The PS Eye is 60 bucks (Dont know how much a Kinect is yet) if you strip out the camera and just leave the 4 microphone array you would have a cheap option for people.

The Kinect/Eye for gameplay and party chat sucks on both so the headset is a good option considering you have to where it anyway unless your that anoying guy using the Kinect.

 

I don't have a PS4, but I would appriciate other peoples views that do have it, although I do appriciate bst's opinion, I would like to hear more.

 

Voice command concepts, and usages existed way before Kinect was even born.

That microphone feature is apart of the Kinect. Like a movie camera, or even your cell phone/tablet or lap top.... they all have a camera and microphone built in. Why produce something half finished? It makes sense to supply a camera with a mic.

 

You know how you use voice commands with a Kinectless Xbox One console? You get a Kinect. *SMH*

 

If Microsoft allows users to use voice commands without a Kinect then that's it for the Kinect, it's basically dead. The main selling point of the Kinect is voice commands.

I have an Xbox One and I have my Kinect plugged in. I use the Kinect whenever my Xbox One is turned on because for the most part it's quicker and easier navigating the UI with my voice.

 

OK there is more to it than something listening to your voice.... the kinect has its own processor... takes your verbal command.. figures out what you said... translate it to a digital signal that turns into a command and sends out that command to the correct
area.. which in turns executes that command..

When you talk... say into a mic... the mic section transforms your voice to data signals that travel to a speaker.. which then re-translates those signals into sound...

@tohe, I don't doubt that for a moment, infact i find it very interesting, but if that is the case, why isn't the MS PR machine letting people know the kinect has its own processing, making the kinect part of processing power of the system. Making the kinect
much more than a mic and camera.

 

The voice commands can be done with software. there is no super computer inside a kinect for voice recognition like I said the PS eye does just as good of a job at the voice commands and it's very small compared to the Kinect.

If you removed the two cameras it would be super small and cheap and it's all you need. Theres no reason Microsoft cant release something like that for X1.

Now don't get me wrong the Kinect is much more advanced in the camera dept. but as far as voice goes they are about the same.

 

@bst, I don't think anyone is saying kinect is a super computer, but if the kinect does process the information, no matter how little it is taking stress away from the main system, then if it also processes the other stuff as well, then the kinect makes
even more sense.

Can you do it another way, of course, but it does look as though MS are looking long term.

 

People still relegating Kinect to just voice commands... People saying "just use the headset" still not taking into account how much battery life you will be using just needing your controller on at all times to access voice commands. At least people are
starting to recognize that voice commands would also be transferred over the mic to other players.

 

It probably wouldn't seeing as the whole voice commands thing is one of their main selling points with the Kinect.

 

We are all forgetting the kinect processors the data can store data in its 2GB memory before it even gets to the console, it's all to do with reducing lag and off loading from the console. A microphone can not do this, it would have to be processed on
the console using up resources.

If your going to put these resources in a external box, you may as well put a camera in, an infrared camera and IR illumination which also is a IR blaster for your tv and audio/tv boxes.

Microsoft have not implemented the "who is talking" yet, they did demo it tho and even showed it seeing who's mouth was moving and who was holding the controller and a while host of other extras.

 

I'm sure the whole "who is talking" will come in a future update in the coming months. At least, it should, because if it doesn't they'll be repeating the whole "it looks awesome when we demo it, but we're going to sell you a downgraded version of it to
cut costs and corners" that they did with the Xbox 360 version of the Kinect sensor. If that happens, even I'll start giving them a piece of my mind.

 

@ Enon.. because MS PR is not the best.... but when it was announced, they did... they talked alot of about the kinect.. not so much of the innards... but the fact it cost about as much as the console itself to make...and it was way beyon what the original
kinect was.. etc etc
