Will series X require Internet and Microsoft account on initial setup?

Hello,

So the one thing I do not like in my One X is that without internet it could not be setup when bought or when resetting it. It is basically a brick in those moments.

Will Series X (I know the series S is digital only) bring back the offline accounts like the 360? Will I be able to setup the console without internet and just install a game disc and play like that?

Until now the only console that did that are the Xbox One consoles.

Will Series X continue on the same path?

I have seen that it uses the same OS as the old one. I guess we will see near the launch of the console. But seeing that some reviewers got prototype Series X in their hands I wonder if they were preconfigured or something like that.

That is my point in buying the console.

I thought that they made the internet required startup on the Xbox One to revert the online DRM.

However if they do that on purpose with the Series X it would be very disappointing!

You will need the internet for the initial setup of the console. Most games require an initial download/update as well.

Even if games are stored on the hard drive or on disc, some still require an internet connection for some features. A Series X would need to be connected initially for setup anyway also. Hello Michael,

Thank you for posting here on the Xbox forums. The Xbox one does in fact require an internet connection for the initial set up of the console. On the bottom of the box " Broadband internet, a Microsoft account, and an Xbox live account are required for initial
online setup..."

Afterwards, you can set your console to offline mode and play the games that are installed. You can even install disc games while offline although, some games require an update to launch.
