Can we install both discs now?

Second disc I used flash drive since I got the game day one. Its a San Disk 32GB USB flash drive for $20 at Walmart. They also have 64GB San Disks for $40.

Worried about the future of Xbox

Bad or controversial news gets hits. I am constantly on the various gaming websites but just don't get caught up in all the sales hype. If I did I'd only have an iPhone, drive a Toyota (or whatever is the biggest selling brand at the moment) and game on
PC since its the superior gaming platform... Instead I'll keep my Xperia Z2, drive my 325 wagon and play my X1 while being completely satisfied Will Scorpio have a disk drive at all - since X1 did not at first? :)

Anyway what I'm getting at is if you really enjoy the X1, play the X1 and not worry about the "Console Wars" which fuel these sales number/res/fps headlines.

X1 is doing fine and will continue to do fine regardless.

You mean like Blockbuster? Or that huge DVD/CD section that dominated Barnes and Noble. (gone)? Those sections you speak of used to be huge...now they are getting smaller and smaller. I never said they will be gone altogether, only that they will be niche...

  5. System unit could very well work like a computer chassis, just a placeholder plastic instead of the drive in a bay.

Not sure if UHD need voltages not on USB3, otherwise the flexible solution would be external UHD drive.

As I understand Sony are having BD drives that are different from stock drives in stores, if that has to do with copy protection or something. So not sure if external drives would expose that communication part a bit for those that crack this kind of licensing.

But xbox allow external hdd at least, which is major advantage with xbox and score many points. It means you can move even digitally downloaded games to free up internal disk temporarily and then restore that at any time later when you feel you want to play
    that game again.

Burning, don't think Blockbuster is a good example to be honest as there focus was rental which streaming has killed. No idea what Barnes and Noble did or were! Will Scorpio have a disk drive at all - since X1 did not at first? :) But in the UK at least all major Supermarkets have large DVD, Blu Ray and CD sections,
HMV is still going strong and Amazon sells zillions of discs. So I would say its a looking like staying a pretty major format for the foreseeable future.

  7. Optical storage is brilliant in many ways, but maybe future will have massive thumbdrives instead. All games sold on a thumbdrive, instead of BD - kind that is not writeable. But not cheap enough yet, but probably will be. Micro SD are very space efficient
I think, and when a rom circuit with 128G are cheap as nothing else it would be very attractive way to distribute license things you own.

Flash memory = Cartridge, no big deal to collectors. Realistically ISP's can't and wont support an all digital future any time soon. Call me out if you want but I think the only person with this idea for the big 3 consoles was Phil Spencer on the xb1 up
until 2013 when common sense took over and he realized that the world won't be ready for this for quite some time. At the end of the day, digital only fans can go digital only any time they want and don't need to wait for the future. I can't imagine how much
fun it will be downloading a true 4k game in the future, they are only getting bigger.

Maybe I am crazy (kwazy?) but last I heard the US is a larger retail market than the UK...here, "plastic disc" sections in any store, are getting smaller and smaller (they are not growing). Specialty stores that used to only sell "plastic discs" are non-existent...

  10. Burnin TODI - isn't that more to do with that retailers are diminishing on things more shopped online, not to do with plastic disc or not.

I have not bought a single CD, DVD - games, films, music, software or otherwise - in 8 years at least.

It's so expensive to have massive amount of things in store, as well as less convenient for consumer.

Online shopping has massive growth - plastic discs and many other things too.

It's just about food only that I shop in a store nowadays.

^that's a definite factor. Burning how can the US be a bigger market when everyone knows its half the size of the UK?? Will Scorpio have a disk drive at all - since X1 did not at first? :)

  12. I now and again buy the odd Blu Ray when out shopping. Usually older films that I missed first time around.

    I've picked up a few 4K/HDR discs

But the vast majority of films/shows I watch are on services like Netflix, Amazon Prime etc

I can quite happily live without physical discs. Just like with games, I personally much rather download/stream them than having a physical copy.

I definitely believe one day in the future consoles will not have physical drives but again just wish today Microsoft/Sony would give us the option for a cheaper disc less machine

Each to their own, but personally my internet has gone down at least three times in the past 12 months due to network issues and to me the one time I wanted to watch Game of Thrones (which I own one series on digital) and couldn't put me off the digital
media world for good. GoT was my first digital media purchase (apart from the odd game and DLC) and the inconvenience of not begin able to watch my own product was a lesson learned. So I went and bought the blu ray box set and haven't touched the digital
again. Will Scorpio have a disk drive at all - since X1 did not at first? :)

As for a cheaper version I don't understand why anyone thinks a disc less model would be considerably cheaper? The disc drive component wont be adding a massive hit to the price given the volume that MS buy them, so not including one isn't going to make
a massive cost saving and the extra cost of having a completely different parallel production line would probably cost more in overall production costs. So I don't see disc less equating to cheaper .

  14. RedEye Expr3ss - Does the Xbox One not boot if the Blu-ray drive is removed?? Because if the Xbox One's BIOS was anything like a PC's it wouldn't make a difference. I built my own PC, If I remove my PC's BD drive, it doesn't error and ask me where it is.

I'm nearly digital only. Most of my Xbox One games are digital. I haven't bought an Xbox One game on disc for over 8 months. Same on my PS4. On PC I'm completely digital. I think this time next year PC games on disc will be a thing of the past. It's
been three years since I bought a PC game on disc.

I need a disc system for now and the future though. I've invested too much in Blu-ray films. Just last week I purchased my 100th Blu-ray movie. Those HMV five for £30 are just too tempting to turn down!

I don't think removing the optical drive would be a good idea as it restricts choice for us the end user and I don't believe this is a good thing.

And besides with some games and special editions I think it's just nice to have them on disc.
