MSRP of physical games and digital games are typically identical. What you're seeing is lower prices in retail stores (physical games) in order to "move product".



To put it simply, it costs a retail store $ (fractions of a cent) each day a game sits on their shelf. The longer a game sits on the shelf, the more desperate they become to "move product". That's true with almost all retail,
not just games.



Digital distributors do not have this problem. They do have to pay for regular server maintenance, bandwidth, etc., but I doubt the overhead costs exceed those of a physical retail store. Digital distributors never need to "move
product" because there is no physical product to move.



The motivations of digital stores and physical stores are very different. Their prices are a result of that.

With a digital copy there is no drive to move stock, no need to lower prices in order to make room in the warehouse or store shelves. The digital copy has no risk of being knocked and damaged.

There is no reason for Microsoft to lower the price of a digital copy. It's no even as if there is any competition on their console for digital games.

When you purchase a Digital game you accept the terms and conditions of the store. I will great that you have the availability to move your Digital game to the store that you want.

But right now, we're just consumers and don't have a complete control of our digital games.
