Will Call of Duty ever be the same?

For years the majority of players had their pitchforks out and called for 'change'. Now that we have change, the game is terrible.

Hear me out. I love enjoy futuristic shooters. Titanfall, Destiny, Halo....all enjoyable games in their own regards. But futuristic COD just doesn't feel right.

The series has been stuck in slightly futuristic to completely futuristic for five straight years with the announcement of Treyarch's Black ops 3: Futuristic Warfare. It seems like the game was most popular and was at its best when the series was based
during WWll-present. IMO people enjoy COD/BF because they are simple, boots on the ground, modern/WWll shooters. If people wanted a futuristic shooter they would have never left Halo and Titanfall's multiplayer would be booming.

The game isn't enjoyable to play or to discuss anymore. Call of Duty is dead on all the major forums and has taken a nose dive on youtube. I think this Microsoft might actually let PS4 have the DLC timed exclusives this year (smart move imo).

Does anyone agree?

Am I becoming a bitter, senile old man?

Will the next developer go back to the era's that we loved?

Is anyone here?

It's Time Call of Duty Games Stopped Being Made

We are now at the 8th Call of Duty!

1. Call of Duty
2. Call of Duty 2
3. Call of Duty 3
4. Call of Duty 4:Modern Warfare
5. Call of Duty: World at War
6. Call of Duty: Modern warfare 2
7. Call of Duty: Black Ops
8. Call of Duty Moden Warfare 3

The series has gone downhill ever since the transition from Call of Duty 4 - Call of Duty: World at War, ever since then it has got worse and worse. Call of Duty is becoming boring coming out every year, maybe take at least a 4 year gap between each
developers games[Infinity Ward 2011, Treyarch 2014, and then back to Infinity Ward in 2016, its getting borning having the same game every year repacked as a 'new' title





Either bring one out every 3 years or just end it!!

How's Call of Duty stale? Call of Duty: Black Ops was like the best selling game ever and set a bunch of records. MW3 is expected to be big, if not bigger than Black Ops.

I don't know anything about the Call Of Duty series, but it sounds to me like it is experiencing something that I have named " series fatigue ".

Basically, this is when a series has ran out of ideas and is literally making games that simply just rely on the brand name.

When a series / franchise meets the end of its life span, the smart thing to do is to let it go away gracefully.

But...

Instead of making an entirely new IP and letting whatever series / franchise go away gracefully, the name of the finished series / franchise will be pasted to the new IP because it will generate more sales because of name recognition.

Thus, dragging the happy memories of the series / franchise into the mud and leaving a bitter sweet taste in the mouths of the fans of that series / franchise.

I'm getting tired of futuristic shooters. It was fun at first with games like Halo and I really enjoy Titanfall but that's about it. I loed CoD for being WW2 to modern/slightly in the future but with no futuristic tech used. BO2 was a borderline case for
me already. In the end it was ok enough for me to master prestige in it but Ghosts was too futuristic for my liking with the Oracles and stuff like that. I'm not even gonna touch Advanced Warfare with a 10 foot stick as I really don't feel the exosuits and
all that others stuff and apparently BO3 will take it even further. I'm now completely put off from CoD and happily follow Battlefield news which is opposite to how it was for me at one point: "BF? Ewwww dude!". I never asked for huge changes, just slightly
bigger maps with better spawns. If they go back to their roots, I might ever pre-order the game but as it is now I just hope CoD flops and they need to re-think what they're doing.

 

i love DLC exclusives but for COD i couldnt care less i dont own the season pass for AW even though it has the best story of any COD game IMO i hardly play the online. im only prestige 2 normally by march im max prestige

 

I don't think it will ever be as good as it used to be. I don't know if maybe I'm just getting older but CoD is just getting too complicated for me. I like when they include a barebones playlist but then no one ever wants to play that with me.

But yes I'm growing weary of futuristic shooters. They are everywhere the same way WWII shooters were years ago. Now I'm begging for a Dev to go back to the old wars.

As for timed DLC, I haven't bought a CoD DLC since BlopsII. I keep buying the games but They haven't kept me engaged enough to want to buy the DLC.

 

I tried Battlefield as I was getting tired of COD. I didn't care much for Ghosts either. The SP was pretty good; MP not so much. I switched over to playing a lot of Destiny so COD fell to secondary. Having said that I miss COD. I have AW but I feel
like if I don't play Destiny more I'm behind the rest of my Clanmates.

I enjoyed Titanfall as well; it felt different and more fun. I'll get Black Ops 3 and I'll probably switch back to COD with my Clanmates and leave Destiny. I just find it a chore to turn on my XB1 sometimes to play. The beta for BLOPS 3 will be interesting
and I think will either make everyone interested in COD again or tank it.

Last C.O.D. I bought and enjoyed multiplayer was Black Ops II. I enjoyed the campaign on Ghosts enough to play though on the 360 and X1, but thought online was terrible. Advanced Warfare (?) held no interest, nor does the upcoming B.O. III. A Vietnam, W.W.
II, or present day shooter, would probably bring me back.

 

Despite the setting, I still feel the game is the same. They haven't changed hardly any animation's outside of wall runs and double jumps.

But I will agree. Call of Duty is old and I have been burned out since MW3(last one I purchased) They just need to slow them down.

I don't see that happening though. As it will still sell tens of millions. (I can't blame them, if I was running the company I would milk it for as long as I could)

 

Totally agree with the op, keep the futuristic warfare to Titanfall/Halo/Destiny. Bring back the good old Cod days!

 

This franchise is running on borrowed time and I think Activision knows this. Its the name that sells this game not the gameplay,quality or even innovation. You can polish a turd all you want but its still a turd. Frankly with the exception of Treyarchs
games I am not sure how this poopsock got so popular.
