Will an original PAL Xbox with the component box output 480p?

The PAL version of the original Xbox unfortunately does NOT support 480p, and games which did support 480p in the US had the feature disabled in PAL releases.

There's no reason behind it from what I know other than Microsoft never selling their own component cables on the PAL market. Support for 480p was very limited at the time here, whereas in the US it came 'free' with the adoption of HDTV.

Oh sorry I forgot to also write can I at least get the quality of 16:5, 480p, 480i 576p or 576i? On PAL regioned consoles? Thanks again kind regards Cameron

720p or 1080i.

You will need to purchase the
Microsoft Xbox High Definition AV Pack (or some other third-party component adapter) in order to output HD resolutions from the original Xbox. NTSC-region Xbox consoles are able to output HD resolutions.

The modding scene for the original Xbox in HD happened for these two reasons:

- PAL systems had the ED/HD display modes removed.

- Some gamers wanted to force some games (that lacked even 480p 16:9 support) to output at a higher resolution than the game was designed.

Further discussion of modding is not allowed on the forums, so I'll leave it at that.

The best output you can get from Xbox 1 is 480P over Component cable, those component cables are very cheap on eBay and give the best output for Xbox 1, make sure to change the output settings from the Xbox dashboard when you connect it via Component cable.

Thanks for the quick response and for verifying a few things for me, but does anybody know why Microsoft removed the 720p and 1080i output on PAL consoles and not NTSC? And are there any alternatives to still get high resolutions on the PAL regioned Orginal
Xbox's or is modifying my console the only option.

And just to clarify I'm not to fond of modifying my console nor modding in general, but because of Microsofts poor decision making they leave users without as choice as not mention it's unfair to PAL regioned users anyway. I only hope there's an alternative
or something else I can do without having to modifying or open up my console. I'm open for any suggestions. Thanks kind regards Cameron
