    Wifi question

my xbox one has been pretty laggy lately and our wifi has been having some issues, I don't know anything about wifi so I ran a "Detailed Network Statistics" thing and, boy did that not help, i'my gonna throw some numbers out at you guys, can you guys make
sense of this? Does anything seem slow or out of the ordinary? Download Speed 5.24 Mbps, Upload Speed 0.64, Mbps Packet loss 0%, MTU 1480, Latency 45 ms, wireless strength 100%. My dad says he would be fine with changing providers or getting new routers, so
what do you guys think? Should I suck it up, get new routers, get new wifi or what? Thank's in advance to anyone who trys to help!

    :)

  2. Are USB AC1600 2.4/5ghz wifi adapter dongles compatible with xbox one usb?

So, I've seen this question asked, and wondered, if the USB WiFi adapter dongles are compatible to boost the signal of an Xbox one.

(obviously I'm aware Xbox one has in built WiFi)

my question is, tho, would a more latest and powerfuller usb dongle boost the WiFi capability of an Xbox one? That means are the drivers in the OS updated to accommodate future and existing tech? I noticed when I plugged in an ac
WiFi adapter the Xbox WiFi up address changed to the usb WiFi adapters ip address so i gues they would be but the question is, are they?

Is ethernet faster than wifi on downloads?

    Quick question:

is ethernet cable faster than wifi when downloading stuff to your xboxes?

I prefer to use wifi on my consoles as it is easier to set up...
But if ethernet is actually faster, then I'd certainly hook up consoles to me laptop via ethernet cable...

I would recommend going all digital with those speeds, though aside from your abysmal upload it should be good for online gaming, Netflix, Hulu, etc..

    Peace, J.R.

Mine averages 10-11mb/s down and 0.9mb/s up, it's called ADSL Broadband. Ask your parents if you can switch to VDSL Broadband or Fibre Broadband. The fact that if you have 100% wireless strength means you are well within range of your home internet service.
There is an Ethernet port you can connect your modem directly to your console via that. Especially when many peps use 2.4Ghz wireless transmitting devices like modems I even think the 360 controller uses the 2.4Ghz frequency. It's best to be with a good provider,
and it's best to get a modem directly from your ISP. That way if you need help with the modem, your ISP won't just refer you to the modem's manufacturer.

The problem with measuring wifi strength is that it can change depending on interference.

Did you measure it when you were sure it was "laggy".

Also suggest you change the wifi channel - that's helped me in the past. But to be honest although your stats won't set the world alight they are good enough for online gaming etc.

    Wifi question

try changing the wireless channel and test again, if you can test wired. But an upload that low can affect gameplay also, all depends on the game.

Are you connected to your personal network WIFI or an open network..?? if it is an open network.. that is one main problem.. many other people are probably connected at the same time...Saying you know nothing of WIFI, just double check you are on your own
    network...

If it your own wifi...how many devices are connected at the same time? This will hinder your connection as well..

What is your ISP rated at in general.. meaning... what service do you have and what are the speeds they are telling you you should get? go to Speedtest.net and run a test...

Chances are you just have a poor internet... might want to anti up and get something a little bit better...

  10. Both of those numbers sound fine if you are paying for a 6MB down and 768KB up. That being said both of those speeds are the minimum I would have for online gaming.

really those numbers don't look bad, but with only a 5m download, that would be easy enough to max out just watching a HD video and that would cause everything to get laggy, otherwise, your ping time is good and no packet loss, did you run the test while
it was acting laggy? could you also go into detail of what it's doing that makes it feel laggy? like are you getting lag while play a online game, or it takes longer to open the friends list than before?

if you have a smartphone, you can also download a wifi analyzer that will at least show you other wifi signals in the area and what channel they are on, could help when trying to change wireless channels.

I have to disagree with @Bakez - you can use wifi perfectly fine for playing online gaming. I've done it in the past - you're at a slight disadvantage due to slower ping but it doesn't make much difference.

@FirstResponder - I have standard BT Broadband (no Infinity in my area) - and I get 8MB down and 1MB up. But the ping is really fast (8ms via Speedtest - MS test always states high ping).

I also have Relish broadband - it uses 4G (and is only available in London and other cities, I think) - I get 35M down and 2M up, but ping is around 30ms.

But I did originally have one X1 using wifi (connecting to the BT broadband) and that worked fine.

When my BT contract runs out I'm cancelling it and using Relish only - as I have got fed up with waiting for BT to put Infinity in Tower Hamlets. Plus with Relish you don't have to pay for a landline that you never use.
