  1. WiFi doesn’t work after connecting an External Drive (SDD or HDD)

    Hello everyone,

I notice, on my XBOX ONE S that after connecting an external drive (sdd or hdd doesn’t really matter) the WiFi Interface is not working properly is losing the connection and it doesn’t re-connect until I unplug the external drive.

In the beginning, I thought that was related to the SDD drive, so I decided to buy a rotative drive (WD Black for XBOX One) but the problem is still there.

All the suggestion that the console gives are related to some network issue, but the network is not the problem because is properly working with other devices and after the disconnection of the external device immediately start working again.

I got this issue on all three USB ports.

I will try to connect the device via Ethernet cable (even if I don’t like this solution) and see what’s happening.

    Do you have any suggestion?

    Best Regards,

    Antonio

    :)

WiFi doesn’t work after connecting an External Drive (SDD or HDD)

    Hi Ezra,

I did the power-cycle and some others check. That is what I found:

    • As before without any external drive connected, I can successfully connect to my WiFi. No problem at all and the Network Statistics are great.
    • With one external drive connected, the signal strength drops a little bit from 75% to 50% and I cannot connect to my main WiFi AP on 2.4 GHz Frequency, but I can connect to the main WiFi on 5GHz Frequency. The problem is that the Network Statistics
      are very bad.
    • I added nearby the console a WiFi extender, by adding this device I can gain the 100% of signal strength and even with an external drive connected (SDD or HDD or both simultaneously) I don’t have any problem at all.
    • With a wired connection, everything works fine.

It seems that the external drive creates an electromagnetic field that impacts on the WiFi gaining.

Instead of using a WiFi extender do you know if a can plug to my XBOX an external USB WiFi card?

    Thanks for your time.

WiFi doesn’t work after connecting an External Drive (SDD or HDD)

    Hi Antonio_Castelli,

Thank you for your post. I understand you are experiencing an issue with your network connectivity when an external hard drive is connected to your Xbox One S. To troubleshoot this, please unplug the external hard drive, perform a

    power-cycle
, then plug in the external drive again once the console has restarted.

Please let us know how this goes!

Xbox One not detecting External Hard Drive

We are all assuming that it worked perfectly before the update. Is that correct? If so and you think nothing is wrong with the external drive then by all means you can try all the troubleshooting everyone has been so kind to provide you with. Sometimes
it could be something simple as a usb cord that is connected to the external drive. Make sure the cables are connected etc. I know this sounds trivial however we need to try the basic checks first. Everyone is so quick to reformat etc . Please do not do this
before making sure that nothing is wrong with the connections cord etc. Sometimes it may sound strange but external drives sometimes just go out it happens. How old is this external drive and what type is it. Is it a sdd or a hdd. Please let us know if trying
these troubleshooting steps do anything. If after all of this and it doesnt work we can then see if the drive is faulty etc. Then we can work on reformatting etc if in fact the drive is fine that is. Please provide the info after you try these troubleshooting
steps. Sorry you are having an issue. I am very curious what type of external drive you have connected.

Xbox had system update last night now it's not recognizing external hard drive

Unfortunately the hard drive is bad . It happens sometimes. Which seagate drive do you have ? An xbox one , a seagate sllim plus , essential, etc. I recommend just getting another external hard drive. Why are you mismatching the sdd and hdd the sdd is
much faster than the hdd. Im assuming the ssd is only 1 tb or not bigger than 2tb because good ones tend to cost a bit. Just get you a good hub and add a few 4tb drives to it if you need more room i have 20 tb on my xbox I have a 8tb unit with three usb connections
4tb on the three . Just buy a good external drive , they all fail eventually depending how long you have them of course and the demand you put on it.

    Xbox disconnect from WiFi

do you have an external hdd connected, if so try disconnecting that to see if it still happens, the odd external drive pulls a little to much from the bus and can cause the wifi module to tank.
