Wierd Headset Adapter Issue

All of a sudden today upon turning on my Xbox One I have an unusual headset related issue.

When my controller is on battery power the headphones on my headset just buzz constantly in my ear and while my party can hear me I am mostly covered by outgoing buzzing as well. (Though this may be from the buzzing in my ear being picked up by the mic)

When the controller is plugged into the Xbox via the play n charge cable (with or without the battery pack in the controller) I get absolutely nothing from the headset sound or mic. I can toggle the mute button on the adapter and the light goes on and off.

I attempted to update my controller again but to no avail. I tested it on another controller and it works all fine. The pins on controllers headset port look fine and normal.

Headset adapter issue

Just set up the new headset adapter with my turtlebeach x41, updated controler, set up all the audio as per turtle beach.com support pages, i can hear game sound but i cant hear friends in a party or game chat, they can hear me perfect, when i unplug the
adapter i can hear them via the wirless turtlebeach control. I believe that there is an issue but dont know whether anyone else having this issue.

Sorry to hear about the controller issue! Make sure that no dirt or debris is on the headset connector. You can clean the connector by using a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol. If cleaning the connector doesn't work, then you may need to replace the
controller the issue is isolated to since you mentioned your other Xbox One controller works fine. To initiate the repair, you can contact our chat or phone support agents through our

Thanks for coming to the forums with your issue. If these headsets are connecting directly with the 3.5mm jack we recommend buying an adapter. They plug into the controller and the headset plugs into the adapter, with a lot of third party headsets we have
been noticing this issue and the adapter usually fixes it, due to the software for adapter.

Some people say the Headset Adapter resolves most issues with the headsets. Personally, I use an adapter and have never had an issue. Just a thought.

Has anyone returned their headset or headset adapter to see if a new headset adapter fixed this issue?

I am beginning to think that it might be a problem with the headset adapter and not the firmware update.

This doesn't seem to be an epidemic but more of an isolated problem for certain customers.

Hi Los Cassidy,

Sorry you're having issues with your Stereo Headset adapter and mic. Can you test your headset with another adapter to see if the adapter itself is faulty? It sounds like you have 2 controllers. Does the issue happen on both controllers? Also is there another
headset that you can test with? As your headset tested okay with another device, it very well could be a bad adapter. If another adapter works, then let us know as you said it could be software related as well.
