Why X1-X?

What compelled MS to even do project Scorpio, or as it's now known. The Xbox One X?

1, Resolutiongate? For years it's been well known that X1, as it relates to resolution, or Pixi Dust as I like to call it. Could truthfully only compete with the PS3 and only ever so slightly surpass the 360.

2, Loosing customers and thought making another `console without addressing the real reason behind a good % of their customers not trusting them anymore could somehow 'save the day'?

Just a thought. But what if the Rep System was no more, and people who report and block more than once in a day were looped in together and were only matched in games/chat/etc with one another?

Personally, I think the people who report and block more than once in a day would report and block one another out entirely. IF/When that ever happens.. then we might have "safe gaming/social media" again. - For it seems everyone is "Offended" about something
these days. But I digress. lol

Still though. Why project scorpio? Why spend the R&D $ when the base feels betrayed (Social Media, Reddit/Twitter/Xbox Forums/Etc) not by the X1 Console weak 'pixi dust', but by. As I myself once put it in years gone by. "The Policies which govern it"???

Xbox is kwl. I chose it cause one of my friends encouraged me. My bf has PS4 Pro but told him if he doesn't get Xbox One X, i'm dumping him. I have several friends on Xbox now. Some of them go to or have been to, my school. Xbox One X beats hardware of Sony
fans PS4 Pro. And honestly, i'm sick of hearing boys in my area dissing Xbox. I like what they've done to Xbox One X. My dad said he'll be getting me one, but I have to do all my chores. Some boys I know said since GTX 1080 has GDDR5X, X implying faster and
better, well.... Xbox One X is faster and better.

 

I chose X1 to have something current gen console since PS4 controller needs to be on charge constantly, or you really need two controllers to finish one session of 6-8 hours gaming.

But overall what fails in my view is the Gold membership that incorporate so many things most people don't need.

Who wants to be assigned what games you are to play - that is basically what free games of the month say???

And changed policy for families in Gold - is not for everybody either.

I think divide membership like this:

a) allow online gaming with other people - on games that have that ability - $25 annually. I think just about everybody would go for that.

b) monthly free keeper games or free to play and member discounts on a range of games monthly - $25 annually.

c) group memberships - a bunch of 5-6 friends can sign up in a group for playing - a family, and/or friends can share membership on a good discount. This is probably what a lot of people want. You play together and do co-op and otherwise. Maybe 50-75% off
each membership.

As Gold membership is designed now I will never sign up. Much too expensive and incorporate free games which is of no value to me. I am usually satisfied with a couple of action/adventure games like Alan Wake, Fallout, Ghost Recon etc, a couple of puzzle
games like Sherlock Holmes, Murdered Soul Suspect, Portal 2 and similar and then everything is racing which is endless fun to do. So that is all about what I feel like a particular evening - instead of watching episodes of some tv-series.

And X1X - will not save Xbox as a business unless MS also make money for keeping the servers running. And I believe really good terms for memberships that give good value has as much of influence.

In regard to the Gold subscription I am surprised that people still believe that it is a requirement to keep the servers running. If this was the case then how do companies such as Valve, with a larger active userbase, keep their servers running. Neverwinter
Nights had its servers shut down in 2014 after 12 years of having them up for no cost to the players. It's not even as if Microsoft host the servers for all the games, rather they are a gatekeeper for third party servers and peer to peer services, with relatively
few Microsoft dedicated servers for games.

The Gold subscription exists because people were stupid enough to accept it.

 

Valve, that is for PC or console too?

As customers we must realize that a business model may have no extra charge specifically for keeping servers up - but still it is on debet side in book keeping - so one way or another we pay for it.

Either sales revenue may be enough to pay for it or they separate some of that cost as subscription charges of some sort.

Anyway - MS or Sony has equally dumb business model for subscriptions for current gen.

On PS3 I could at least play weekly online events on GT5 without being on a subscription.

I think it's all subscription now to do on this gen. We will see when GT Sport arrives maybe.

MS keep offering to pay me $1 if I try Gold a month - so don't think it is that successful. Not in demand for real.

And as I read somewhere - you cannot purchase Gold with gift cards and such - which requires you to store credit/debit card credentials at MS store - which is a no-no for me.

Single player fit my way of gaming better either way, but maybe some online stuff could be interesting like if there is some time trial for Forza or so.

I think really good discounts for AAA games - maybe one a month, or constantly a range of games to select one - it might interest me, if I could get it on disk sent to me.

So far it's only possible needs for gaming that will have to make me upgrade internet to double or triple my current cost.

And if Gold and such memberships on top of that - gaming becomes really expensive.

 

I chose the Xbox One because I hate the PlayStation controller, I don't care if the PlayStation has more exclusives, because the vast majority of the games I buy are multiplatform. Just look at the top ten games week in and week out, the majority of them
are your CoD's, BF1's, GTA's, FIFA's etc etc

And regarding the "Resolutiongate" and the Xbox One is "ever so slightly" surpasses the 360, are you kidding me?

 

Well given they have games on both PC and console, I'm going to say both.

But it is a good example. I want to play Left 4 Dead online I can do so for no charge on Valve's servers with the PC version. Yet I want to play it on my Xbox, I have to pay Microsoft to be able to play on Valve's servers.

How is that right?

Why should people pay Microsoft for a service they are not supplying in this case.

I don't expect things to be free though, and would not mind paying for something that I want.

But a lot of overhead in Gold for me - so $60 or so is a lot for the minor part that is of value to me.

And that of value is too large to download - I don't have the internet for it or the time to fiddle with that.

I will have a purchased disk here in the same time I download something..

 

Sadly I don't think he is kidding. The fact that he calls resolution "pixie dust" should be a pretty good indication of his level of technical knowledge. ;-)

 

I do genuinely think if they removed online play from the Gold subscription there would be enough value in it that people would continue to pay. The amount of games I've enjoyed, that I never would have bought, thanks to Games With Gold is proof enough
for that.

The price is also cheap enough.. CD Keys have 15 months of Gold available for $55. An extra three months for five dollars less than Microsoft are selling direct for twelve months.

It's just that I hugely dislike the locking of online behind a paywall when there is no reason for that to exist.

 

No, I'm not "kidding." 180p isn't much of a visual difference. So in that regard yes, the X1 only ever so slightly surpassed the 360. But the real question, and the one is ignoring is.

Will X1-X's 4K (already some questions about that) resolution be enough to sell it and/or future consoles? Or...

Would eliminating MS's anti social polices in game, chat etc be the way to go? Remember, this option costs MS nothing.
