Why won't windows 11 install Xbox controller drivers?

I have a Windows 11 PC and it will not update the controller driver. When I plug in a controller it shows up in device manager with the little yellow icon that shows there is a problem and when I try to update the driver it says that "One of the installers for this device cannot perform the installation at this time". I have tried this with my XBox One controller as well as 2 generic Xbox compatible controllers make sure it wasn't a problem with my controller or Xbox wireless adapter. It doesn't matter whether it is plugged in or I try to use the adapter. I want to play my old RPGs on steam, please help!
