    xbox one hopeless media player

    Hi folks, I got an xbox one with the view to watching movies etc on it. I have loads of mkv files and even mp4 now, the xbox one can play none of them no matter if I use the media player app or plex. Is there anything Im doing wrong, my br player can play all these files, my cheap android player can and so can my tv, can the xbox play anything, is there some settings I need to change. I converted a mkv to mp4 format thinking thats gotta work, nope.

    Does the XB1 Media Player support MP4's ? It sees the WMV files on my Media Server, but not the MP4's.

    Can you watch copied movies on the Xbox One S?

    The Xbox One will play any blu-ray or dvd whether it is an original copy or a backup copy of it. Just install the blu-ray app and play the disc. If you are talking about movies downloaded from the internet (avi, divx, xvid, mkv, mp4), then you will need
    a media player installed that will play those movies.

    The windows media player only plays some files. I can't figure out why some are available and others are not. Its weird. Some mp4's work some don't. Same thing with avi. Mkv's don't work at all.

    Xbox One's Media Player App is complete crap

    I can stream mp4's and mkv's on the media player.

    1. try renaming the files. sometimes when they're too long they don't show up or won't show up until i rename them.

    2. try with wifi instead of hard wired

    3. you have to go into network and sharing settings and give the xbox one pemission to to view your pc media library.

    4. try different files. go on youtube and download an mp4 and put it on your usb stick and try it.

    Bought XBox One S for 4k - 4k not working.

    I don't believe the XBOX One S supports 30Hz at 3840X2160. My 4k doesn't support 60Hz but does support 50Hz, 30Hz, and 24Hz and I can't get anything on the XBOX One to work in 4k, including setting the TV Resolution. YouTube will not offer the option to
    play in 4k and Media Player provides a green screen when playing a 4k MP4. There is no 30Hz option that I see in the Advanced Video Settings.

    Having the same problem with media player on my Xbox One S playing .mp4 files off of a 2TB drive, exactly as described by "NeutronOverload".

    I switched over to ACG player for now which is only ok-ish. The ads are slightly annoying, popping up only once during binge play, but playback is better than VLC, (the contrast issue)

    I hope an update fixes this issue with media player soon.
