Why won't Call of Duty MWII load?

I have the same problem - but I think I’ve found the solution!

- start MW2 until it gets to the “Press A To Start” screen

- unplug internet connection, press A and choose to go offline

- then press A to go to the offline campaign menu

- plug in internet connection and wait a minute

- start a campaign game, when it loads then exit back to the campaign menu

- press b to go back to the main menu

This is where I’m usually presented with the “Choose Plan” page for Xbox gold etc - I then press b to exit the page and then it should load into the online main menu.

I think the issue may have something to do with wanting to play online (Warzone) without an Xbox games pass or gold subscription.

I have done everything that I can think of and what you have suggested, it's still doing the same.

I noticed that a lot of users are also experiencing the same issue with the game however, we haven't received an official announcement from Microsoft yet so in the meantime, let's try doing some troubleshooting steps and if it still doesn't, you may need to contact Activision Support for further assistance.

Please follow the steps below and see if it helps.

Step 1

1. Turn off your console by pressing the Xbox button on the front of the console for about 10 seconds, until it shuts down completely.

2. Unplug the console's power cable. Wait 10 seconds.

Important Be sure to wait at least 10 seconds. This step resets the power supply.

3. Plug the console power cable back in.

4. Press the Xbox button on your console to turn it on.

Step 2

If it still doesn't work, kindly try to refresh your operating system and delete all potentially corrupted data without deleting your games or apps.​​​​​​​

Note: Make sure that you know your account logins before doing this step. Also, this will remove all your Home Xbox associations.

1. Press the Xbox button to open the guide.

2. Select Profile & system > Settings > System > Console info > Reset console.

3. On the Reset your console? screen, you'll select Reset and keep my games & apps.

In addition, after a recent Call of Duty update, the Modern Warfare II (MWII) campaign was indeed relocated from the main Call of Duty HQ to its own distinct DLC to reduce the size of the HQ's file.

If you're experiencing issues or confusion with this setup, you can navigate to the "Manage Files" section within Call of Duty HQ to ensure all necessary content for MWII is installed.
