    Hi! I have a complaint/question. It says that I must have an Xbox Gold membership to play games online on my xbox console. I don't understand why? The thing about it is that, in the example of rocket league, Microsoft provides almost NO services and all
    servers for rocket league are ran by psyonix/epic games. I don't understand how Microsoft can legally even tell me that I can not play a "FREE TO PLAY" game without paying when I own the console and MS is not providing any services. I may consider a lawsuit
    FYI but I would like to know, from MS's staff, what the official reason for charging me $10 a month to play a "FREE TO PLAY" game.

    Under the notion that the hardware is owned by ME and a LICENCE to use the software incorporated on the XBOX is issued to me in accordance with the TOS and EULA, I can understand a licensing fee. But that is not what this is - as I can play offline games
    on the installed software for free. Considering how there is no "consideration" (as i do not play any of MS's games that are offered with the pass), this seems like a voidable contract.

    Furthermore, if I would like to remove the Microsoft/Xbox firmware and install something else... how is this done? I would love to have linux/android instead of xbox's firmware if MS is going to charge me to, again I cannot stress this enough, a "FREE TO
    PLAY" game.

    At the very least, this seems like false advertising. How are you going to charge $300+ for a console that cannot be used online without charging me more money? ILLEGAL I SAY!

    I look forward to your response, and, if possible, please escalate my inquiry to management, as this (not yet, but potentially) may result in a injuctive lawsuit.

    should go to pc then its free online play there, microsoft charges to cover the costs of the first party titles servers and the profile/account and cheevo servers, all third party game servers are run and paid for by the dev/publisher and dont get a penny
    from microsoft.

    weird really as xbox service games on pc are free to play online.

    Not sure why you think there are hidden charges. If you pay for these services you have the right to use these services where applicable. If using these services on third party hardware you are subject to the terns and conditions of the third party

    Why am I forced to pay for a service to use a service I am paying for?

    First, let me say that you won't find a bigger MS 'fan boy' than me. So much so that I have a Windows Phone, a Windows Tablet and a Windows 8.1 laptop. Even my wife and kids use Windows devices exclusively.

    That being said, I also think that having to pay a subscription fee to MS to use services that are free on every other platform is ridiculous. MS markets XBOX as a complete home entertainment system, not just a video game console. By making people pay to
    surf the web, use free service such as Crackle, or paid services such as Netflix completely negates their marketing.

    MS has recently drastically lowered the licensing fee for the Windows Phone OS to grow market share and are getting pressure to make it free to OEMs. By charging this extra fee to use third party services on Xbox is cutting into their console sales and should
    be changed.
