    Why not automatically updating?

Why is my Xbox One not automatically updating, when all my settings tell it to?

Issue that just happened: my Xbox One has literally been turned on, full power, for almost a week, but I haven't used it on my TV screen. But it's been on.

I just turned on the TV and selected the Xbox One input of the TV, and I was greeted with a message like "Let's update." It was 749MB or something.

So why didn't this update run automatically? The Xbox has been physically on in a full-power state, yet it just sat there and waited for me to press a button to start the update., And this small update has taken over 10 minutes so far (update: took about 15 minutes to complete - most of that was verifying, restarting, verifying, etc).

This isn't the only update problem, it's just the most recent and baffling, since the Xbox has been actually powered on, and still failed to auto update. I'm not even talking about the Xbox always failing to automatically apply system updates, or failing to update games I've played very recently, but have to then update when I go to play them (anyway, when I set my XB1 to automatically update, I expect it to keep everything updated - every game, every app, regardless of how recently or often I've used them. II just want the thing to stay updated).

I have the XB1 and an external storage drive. I use the setting that keeps external storage active when XB1 is powered down.

When my XB1 is powered down, it is set to use the low power mode, where it restarts fast and is supposed to update.

I have the settings to update automatically enabled.

I'm tired of turning on my Xbox to play something, then having to wait 20 minutes or more to actually play something.

    :)

    Why not automatically updating?

I'm Samy an independent advisor. Welcome to the Xbox community. How are you?

I didn't quite understand a part of what you said.

''When my XB1 is powered down, it is set to use the low power mode, where it restarts fast and is supposed to update.''

If your console is in power save mode, it won't update when it's turned off. It's also important that you don't use the full shutdown option in your console's power settings. Resetting the console can help you resolve this.

Reset the console to factory defaults, you won't lose anything but you will need to log in with your account again. Email and password are required.

Follow this path and select reset keeping games and app.

In 5 to 10 minutes you will finish reconfiguring your console

    To reset the console>

    Settings> System> Console Info> Reset Console

***Do not reset your console without having your account email and password.***

    Hey there :)

Maybe it automatically downloaded updates for it ;)

So that's why it is more than the expected!

After Windows update, Xbox 360 controller stopped working

So Windows automatically updates and that kills the controller connection every time. Even uninstalling the updates requires several attempts to reconnect the controller, usually resulting in only a few minutes of connectivity. This is a crappy response,
"uninstall the updates." Especially since the updates are automatic.

My controller is Xbox One which is Microsoft. So why does the update jack my connection?

Why can't microsoft account for this?

Why are games still automatically updating?

    Hello sic MI Salem,

We appreciate you for sharing your concern with us and welcome to Xbox Forums.

We understand that you are experiencing issues with automatic updates on your Xbox app and Microsoft Store app. Just to provide you clarification, that even if you have turned off automatic updates on your Xbox app and Microsoft Store app, some games may still update automatically. This is because some games have their own update settings that override the general settings of the Xbox app and Microsoft Store app. Nothing to worry, we will try to work on this together.

Before we proceed, I will be asking you few questions to better understand the issue we have:

    • By any chance, was the issue presented to all of your games? Or only specific games?
    • Is this the first time the issue occurs?

In the meantime, you can check your games from updating automatically for doing the following steps:

Note: You can skip the steps you've taken already.

    1. Open the Xbox app and click on the three horizontal lines in the top-left corner.

    2. Click on "Settings" and then click on "Game DVR & streaming".

    3. Turn off the "Record game clips and screenshots using Game DVR" option.

    4. Go back to the main settings page and click on "Network".

    5. Turn off the "Download games and updates as soon as they are available" option.

Additionally, you can also try disabling automatic updates for individual games by following these steps:

    1. Open the Microsoft Store app and click on the three dots in the top-right corner.

    2. Click on "Downloads and updates".

    3. Click on "Get updates" and then click on "Pause updates for 7 days".

    4. Repeat step 3 for each game that you do not want to update automatically.

Regarding your concern about data usage, I understand that this can be frustrating. However, Microsoft does not offer compensation for data usage. I recommend monitoring your data usage and adjusting your settings accordingly to prevent automatic updates from consuming your data.

I hope this information helps. If you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to ask.

    Kind regards,
