    Why no demos?

Is it me or do we seem to be seeing less and less demos of games being released?

More so on the Xbox One than the Xbox.

Why don't they just release the demos that are given to the magazines that they get to try.

At least we could get some idea of what the game is like.

    :)

"Oh. This argument again. Hello argument, how's it going?"

    -

Frequent use of an argument does not invalidate that argument, especially since so far the only real attempt I've seen at countering this has been through the use of ludicrous extremes (eg "Why don't they also say HEY LETS DROP A GODMODE WEAPON AT THE PLAYERS
FEET AS WELL GUISE, ITS ALL ABOUT CHOICE, RIGHT?"), which are usually delivered with a significant amount of smart-assed attitude.

    -

Most people I see argue in favour of things like this usually apply a bit of sense and suggest that it should most definitely be a one-off thing that you have to put in some effort to obtain. And I would be fine with this, because I have about 4 perk points
sitting in skill trees that turned out to be useless to me and frankly my OCD is kicking me in the side of the head over it.

If there was a respec option, I don't think I would use it. When I play Skyrim, I role-play as my character. I like the idea of living with the choices that my character makes. It seems that if I were able to respec, the choices wouldn't mean much.

    Why no demos?

Denos are a deceloper decision and studies suggest they hurt sales.

they only hurt the sales if the games sucks but if i play a good game through a demo then that will get me to pick it up at some point. there have been time where i would never have brought a game if it was not for playing the demo and finding it to be
    good

  6. As the game library on Xbox One will grow we will most likely see more demos.

Whether or not an Xbox One game has a demo is entirely up to the developer of that game.

    Why no demos?

It probably have more to do with the fact the Xbox One library isn't very big right now. As more games are made, more demos will come out. There wasn't a lot of demos when the Xbox 360 just released (I presume)

Now while I agree with you, what you may find a good game I may think is rubbish. Developer X releases a brand new IP - you like the game and I hate it, you buy the full game and I don't because the demo did not impress me - that's
a sale lost. Now if there was no demo I may have gone out and brought the game. I can see both sides.

It's Microsoft's decision, they decided that demos are no longer required.

    Why no demos?

It is great we have things like Twitch, and Upload Studio where you can view clips of the games, and ask questions. But you can't see how the game plays in your hands. Case in point, Metal Gear Solid. Maybe it is me, but I don't like the way you control
your character. If I got to play a demo first, I would have not bought the game. Granted this game is only $30 and not really a full game.

And speaking of prices, why are digital games prices the same as the ones being sold in stores? There is no packaging involved so you would think there would be at least a $10 drop in price. I will go one more, the stores drop the prices before the digital
version. Ryse right now is selling for $43.99 on Amazon but it is still $59.99 digitally. In fact, just about all of them have. I rather have the digital version of the game, so you don't have to get up and switch discs, but not if I have to pay full
    price.

I for one would love a return of demos, but I think the game industry is in ultra lean mode just to survive. I think it's also the reason for DLC and micro transactions. It's not so much they want to rip everyone off. It's how they are making up for the
continual lowering of the value of the dollar. They can't raise the initial price of a game, because a $60 price tag is still fresh in everyone's mind. No one wants to pay more than $60 for a game even though the dollar continues to drop in value. This is
the bad news you aren't going to hear about.

I wasn't going to buy Titanfall at all until I played the beta. It was, in effect, a demo - and one which sold me on the game.

For good games demos are great, but they do take up time resources - and based on the number of games these days needing day one patches or need to be fixed post-release because they shipped with broken features, that seems to be time they cannot spare.

EA has made available a few demos for their sports titles, but they could easily release one for PvZ: Garden Warfare. When you download the full game, you can start playing pretty early on in the download process, and that's because there's a type of demo
there - you get a portion of one of the maps and can play as all plant (and zombie?) classes and run around and kill waves of the enemy. It's quite limited when all you want to do is play the real thing, but it would make for a perfect demo to be released.
