    Why is there texture pop in on One-X enhanced games?


    I used to play FH4 and FM7 on my original Xbox One and while there were texture streaming issues and pop in when playing FH4 (expected) there was none in FM7.

    Now that I have a One-X, I'm seeing texture pop in on the horizon while playing FM7. What gives? there's also mild texture pop in when playing FH4.

    Was playing GOW4 the other day on perfomrance mode and coming closer to a dropped weapon, like say, 2-3 feet or so, and a shadow around it would suddenly pop up and then pop out when I move away.

    Aren't the One-X's specs sufficient enough to keep issues like texture pop up at bay?

    It's not the developer's fault - there are most likely limitations in the hardware - even though quite a handful of people have brought up threads in both the official FH4 and FM7 sub-forum in regards to texture pops
    and late texture loading/streaming on One-X.

    As for finding the right balance, both modes in FH4 have texture pop in - FM7 has only one mode - and it has texture pop in on the One-X, which you would not find on the OG One console. You don't find that odd at all?

    When a game is "enahnced for Xbox One X" that can mean a number of things. I really denotes that there was some extra work done on the developer side to implement features that are on the Xbox One X and not the orginal Xbox One or Xbox One S. That can
    range from 4k textures (even if that means not chanigng the underlying tech, just having better textures), to including an option for Performance / Presentation modes.

    Depending on the games, take a look at the options for modes and find the balance that you are happiest with between presentation and performance.

    If you would like to see improviements, you can reach out to the developer and let them know as a consumer of ttheir product what issues you're seeing so they can look into it.

    Well, the texture pop in isn't 'massive' but quite noticeable sitting 5-6 feet away from a 40" screen. I never noticed these while playing FH4 and FH7 on my original X-one console.

    I've read on the forza official forums that texture streaming and late loading issues are there on PC as well, but perhaps not to the same extent as the One-X.

    No it doesn't as I recently experienced just that - in fact, neither does FH4 as I got mild screen tearing and hiccups around the Edinburgh map area while in performance mode.

    Let me rephrase - when you enable the console's full power by enabling 4k UHD from the menu, then the console is using all its available HP to natively display assets in 4K, right? As opposed to 1080p supersampled -
    which means some of the console's HP is not being utilized? Can you please clarify this? I'm priobably wrong here - and just trying to establish if those playing on 4K/HDR screens are getting the same level of texture pop in as 1080p

    Well, we can rule the first one out because there's nothing I can do about that as One-X user. Hard drive speed... I've played the game on both internal and an external WD "my passport" 2TB 5400rpm drive - with the latter, load times are slightly more spontaneous
    and texture pop in perhaps slightly reduced. But hardly enough to warranty "play game on external to avoid texture pop in"

    As for point 3, yes, it's quite possible they had to make sacrifices for 4K and 60fps/1800p because pop in like this has not been noticeable on FH3 or FH2. In the original, there's no pop in at all!!

    I'm a techie who plays console games and PC games, indeed, I built my own gaming PC. When your talking about textures and pop-in, there are several things in play that can cause this.

    1. Graphics and memory bandwidth.

    2. Hard drive read speed.

    3. Changes to the graphics engine by the developer to reach a specific performance target.

    I see texture pop-in on some games, notably I've seen objects and some shadows vanish on Assassins Creed Odyssey when you move away from them. I've not observed pop-in on the FH games you describe, but lately I've been playing these game on my PC.
