  1. Why is the xbox one power supply considered an accessory ?

I"m pretty sure the console doesn't run on batteries, I don't know, maybe it does. Here's my short story.

Xbox one console still under warranty when it stops powering up, disc won't eject, etc, but the power supply has an amber light. I couldn't remember if it's supposed to be green during normal operation, or if amber meant it had failed in some way. So i go
the support websight and follow the procedures for returning a product. I didn't navigate far enough though to see that the power supply is considered an accessory. Why is it considered an accessory ? It's a necessity because Im pretty sure consoles don't
run on batteries, and it's also not available for sale seperately anywhere that I've seen ? Anyway I send the console and the PS in, with a small note attached to the PS that says "console won't power up". So they receive it, and apparently set my PS aside
and power it up with their own, and of course they find nothing wrong with it. So they send it back to me, minus my power supply !! So I get back online and start a chat session, and eventually I'm told that I now have to wait 10 days for them to return my
old PS, so I can then go back to the support page and fill out another service request for the failed (assuming it's failed because it was never troubleshot) PS, then I have to ship it back to them. Once they receive the power supply, thats already currently
in their hands in TX, then they will send me a new replacement. Of course I don't have to pay for any of this, it will just cost me the time it takes to box it all up and then the frustration I have to get from my son because he's not able to play for another
    3 -4 weeks.

    Anyway.......

    :)

    No Prepaid Return Label Option?

    nope this is typical

power supply is considered a accessory and yes all companies do not send prepaid labels for accessories this includes controllers

you must send it in at your own cost

this is defined in the warranty terms

    Hello

    As stated on this page
    support.xbox.com/.../about-power-supply
you need to contact support about getting a replacement powersupply, nowhere does it even mention sending in your console AND powersupply and even if you were to ship your console it clearly states to only send the
    console and no other accessories.

You have to understand that the repair center gets various units and can not keep track of which accessories belong to which Xbox, that's the reason why they ask you to only send the console unless it's explicitly stated otherwise (like a controller or only
    a powersupply)

It is not Microsoft's or Xbox's fault because you failed to read the instructions. I suggest contacting Xbox Support via phone this time as recommended via the support page.

  5. Ok, at the time I didn't know for sure if it was my console that was bad, or the power supply. Because remember the power supply showed it had power supplied to it. So you're saying I should have sent the console first, let them test it and confirm it was
fine, then send it back to me, then I should have sent the power supply seperately and waited again for that to be tested and or repaired. That's a horrible business practice any way you look at it.

  6. You could of asked for help on the forums before doing all of that. There are plenty of people here that could of helped and are willing to help you troubleshoot the issues you were having with your Xbox, unfortunately it's too late now but you should still
be able to at least purchase a new powersupply (it shouldn't be that expensive) by contacting Xbox Support via phone

Question for xbox ambassadors and Xbox employees i need this to be official

This Support about power supply has quote "
    Power supply and cord

The original Xbox One comes with an external fan-assisted power supply that measures 6.69 x 1.88 x 2.96 inches (about 17 x 4.8 x 7.5 cm). The size is the same in the 100-110V, 220-240V, and 100-240V versions.

    Important

Microsoft does not license any non-Microsoft accessories that plug into the Xbox One power socket. Using any accessory other than the standard Xbox One power supply may damage your Xbox and void your warranty.

    • Xbox power supplies should be used only in the regions where they’re sold new. Don't use a power supply built for a region whose power requirements differ from where you are.
    • Don't use an unlicensed accessory, such as a non-Microsoft replacement power supply, or any accessory that plugs in-between your Xbox and its power supply.
    • The Xbox power supply contains a fuse to help protect your console from power surges and excessive voltage. This fuse can’t be replaced. " unquote
