    Why is series s|x remote play horrible and why hasn't it been addressed?


    Remote play using a series x is visually a downgrade from remote play using my one s. Googling this issue gives similar experiences pretty much spanning the life of this console, with nothing suggesting Microsoft has ever addressed why remote play quality is so low with the new consoles.



    It's supposedly 720P but looks horrible compared to playing a game on something such as my switch. This wasn't nearly the case when I used remote play with my one s. It's like 720P with such a horrible bitrate that it looks more like 540P at best.

    Red Dead Redemption 2 bad graphics

    Hi,

    Red Dead Redemption 2 on Xbox was only optimised for Xbox One X it hasn't been optimised for the Series S or X hardware. On the Series S it runs in Xbox One Backwards compatibility mode. As such, it runs at around 900P (around 1600x900). This means it will look quite soft looking on a 4K display, although it should not affect the colours or the contrast.

    Unfortunately, RDR2 is not great on the Series S, especially on a 4K display. FIFA 23 is Series S|X optimised, which is why this game looks a lot better.

    Xbox remote play on iPad (home wifi)

    I just tried the xcloud service directly from my series s and it worked absolutely flawless.

    Now I am even more confused than before.

    Why can I play cloud games directly from my Xbox in an astounding quality but it is not possible to remote play from Xbox to pc/ipad.

    But what confuses me even more is that it works perfectly with ps remote play.

    Just tested steam remote play from the PC to the iPad and that also worked wonderfully.

    Maybe it's an general problem with the series s/x consoles?

    That game hasn't been released on the Xbox One. It was released for the Series S/X.

    Supported device Xbox One S/X for remote play on PC.

    Series X/S not available in Beta app.

    Xbox Series X and S are out of luck for now.

    Hi,

    I can't see why not. After all, the Series X and S console support Xbox One controllers. That shows the way these new controllers connect hasn't changed. They should work on PC with the Wireless Adaptor.
