Why is my xbox using much data?

My Xbox one has a rediculous monthly bandwith usage. Does anyone know how to reduce this. My ISP is moaning that I use roughly 10tb a year. Plus I'm guessing this is wrong but for two of the months I used 700tb and 8000tb according to the xbox.

That would really defeat the purpose of instant on. Users don't have to wait on updates to play their games since they will download while the system is in standby.

I think something is seriously wrong with my system. I have both a PS4 and Xbox one, and I primarily play the PS4, but a few days ago, I got a call saying I went over my 300GB Internet data limit. I was trying to check and see what was happening, and when
I went to check my Xbox one Data usage I noticed something very strange. It said I had used 218 GB of data in one day, which is weird because I only had it on for maybe 30-1hr to download the new Destiy update. I don't stream or anything, and on I average
I may play on it for like 6-8 hrs in a week. I have the system alread set to energy-saver mode. I've checked other settings to make sure that when the system is off, it's off. Why is my system doing this?

 

The Data Usage recorded from Xbox 1 is inaccurate! Microsoft is not an ISP though they are the biggest software company in the world. You must be trying to download Xbox 1's entire game library off Xbox Live or watching YouTube, and 4k Netflix 24/7 to get
that amount of usage. Maybe you need to get your ISP to investigate. Make sure you're with a good ISP too (if your circumstances permit). I'm with Vodafone NZ.

 

Reset and look at network statistics in X1 settings.

You can reset any time you want, and get statistics for the current session even.

Are you in preview program that has frequent system updates?

I would also turn off automatic updates of system and games&apps as a test, after reset of statistics.

And not having Xbox for fast restart standby (or what it is called) - that makes Xbox do downloads at any time in background, even when turned off.

Are there subscription stuff on films or something?

Are there apps that keep running after usage?

Xbox is horrible in that way, you don't see clearly if you need to quit an app - always check Edge and any app after usage through menu button if there is a quit command - then use it.

If Edge is on a page with ads - you may have constant downloads of those.

 

It all depends on how much you use the console, if you download all of your games, and play online every night then 10Tb a year sounds like it could be right.

If that's not a typo, I would say your console just flew over the cuckoo's nest.
