Why is my Xbox displaying a blank screen?

I recently added a storage expansion card to my Xbox. I was moving some games from external storage to the storage expansion card. The games all froze while trying to move and it wouldn’t let me cancel the moving even though it was making no progress. I then turned my xbox off by holding the power button… now whenever I turn it on it has the initial power on screen where it says xbox, then it just displays a black screen. The only thing it will do it when I hold the xbox button on my controller it lets me power off or restart my xbox. I’ve power cycled it a lot and can’t find a fix. My Xbox is a series s by the way with a sea gate 1TB expansion card.

Have you tried removing the expansion card to see if that will help?

You may also do a reset on your console.

NOTE: This will delete the profiles on your account, make sure that you remember the email and password to your account.

No data or game saves will be lost doing this, everything is backed up to the cloud servers.

- Unplug the network cable if you're using a wired network connection.

- Power off your console, and then unplug the power cord to ensure that the console is completely powered off.

- Wait 30 seconds.

- Plug the power cord back in on another outlet.

- Press and hold the BIND button (the one to SYNC controllers) and the EJECT button, and then press the Xbox button on the console.

- Continue holding the BIND and EJECT buttons for 10-15 seconds.

- Listen for two “power-up” tones a couple of seconds apart.

Note: If you don't hear two power-up tones after 15 seconds, it means this failed. Likewise, if you hear any “power-down” chirps, that also means this failed.

- You can release the BIND and EJECT buttons after the second power-up tone.

- The console should start and show the Troubleshooting screen

- Choose "Reset this Xbox" and then "Keep games and apps".

Hi Nikki,

When you say that the Panasonic TV doesn’t recognise your Xbox via HDMI, do you mean that it says ‘no signal’ or is it just a blank screen? Is there a display when other devices are connected to the same HDMI port on the TV?
