    Why is my Xbox controller disconnecting randomly?


    My xbox wireless controller will randomly disconnect from the console, start flashing and will not reconnect afterwards.

    I have already tried:

    - Resyncing the controller with the console using the sync buttons

    - Removing and reinserting the batteries

    - Replacing with new batteries

    - updating controller firmware

    - powercycling the console (although this is not ideal if I'm in the middle of a multiplayer / co-op game).

    Moving the flashing controller directly in front of the xbox to an inch will get it to connect but as soon as I move away past half a metre it disconnects again.

    My only workaround is to connect the controller via a USB cable patched into the front USB port of the console so I can continue play.

    More info:

    Xbox One X owner using the official wireless controller supplied with the console.

    The problem began a couple of months ago. No issues since I purchased it in 2017.

    I don't have another controller to compare.

    I sit approx. 2 metres away from the console with no obstructions.

    I don't have a landline phone and no other appliances that may cause interference.

    Issue occurs after 1-2 hours of playing.

    I am sorry to hear that.

    Please, follow these steps:

    On your Xbox console, press the Xbox button to open the guide, and then:

    Go to Profile & system > Xbox Support > Get help > Help topics > Hardware & networking > Controllers > My Xbox controller has connection issues after the last update.

    Select Check your controller’s firmware to open the controller firmware reversion screen in the Xbox Accessories app, and then follow the instructions in the app.

    Thanks for the help,

    I've found a resolution for my problem. If I plug my controller into my USB switch the controller doesn't disconnect, even though the other inputs do disconnect randomly! When I swap the inputs to my PC everything works perfectly and the Xbox controller continues to work on the Xbox (weirdly).
