why is my xbox 360 minecraft not getting any updates past the llama and llama man?

My xbox 360 has not shown any minecraft updates since the llama update and its making me not want to play anymore, then I see people on youtube showing different updates and I get excited, turn on the game....... no updates to be found. Then I hear about
java edition? but can't find it for the 360. Is it time to retire my xbox for a different one?? Because I have several games I really love that is only found for it because they are old, like Alice return to madness and Saints row 2.

A lot of games are backwards compatible and will work on the One as well as the Series X when it releases later this year. You can see a full list of backwards compatible games here.
Both Alice: Madness Returns and Saints Row 2 are backwards compatible.

There are several different versions of minecraft. Minecraft: Java edition is PC only and can only crossplay with Java players (mac, Lenox, PC) The minecraft that doesnt have a version next to it is the play together version or more commonly called bedrock.
Bedrock is the version that can be played across mobile, console, and PC. There are also editions that are made specifically for most consoles and even a stand alone mobile version. Examples would be Minecraft: Xbox One Edition, Minecraft: Pocket Edition.
These do not work with Bedrock which is just called Minecraft. Java is the most updated version of minecraft while bedrock would be right behind that one. The others I'm really not sure how often they update them if at all. Each edition of Minecraft has to
be purchased separately. I happen to own both Minecraft: Xbox one edition and Minecraft since they released at separate times. I also have Java on my PC. As for your issue they do not have a Bedrock version on the 360.

So that means I DO have to retire my system and buy a new one. Will xbox do anything with the platforms to be able to play older games on the new platforms? I know they are old but I really love my saints row 2 and Alice return to madness.

The Xbox 360 and the Xbox One (the one labeled Xbox One Edition) Versions of Minecraft are not actually support with updates at all since around the update they added llamas a few years ago. If you've been looking for/hearing about this new update of Minecraft
its only available on Bedrock editions (Windows 10 variants) and the Java versions of Minecraft, so "new" Minecraft only. Don't worry though, when you upgrade to an Xbox One if you owned Minecraft at any point you get the newest version for free. (I think.)
