Why is my Fortnite name my old Xbox name?

Thanks for reaching out to the forums. The reason for this is on your epic account the gamer tag has not been updated. Pretty sure you can go to epic games and update it there.

Any game you play on Xbox Live will utilize your Xbox gamertag as the username.

No your Online Name regardless of game is reflected by your xbox live gamer tag.

Name changes cost money there is no way arround it.
