The issue has been identified, as was suspected right from the point at which it happened, with the software update - see link below.

Shame on Microsoft and their ambassadors for suggesting people should go and hassle the drive manufacturers.

If the only variable identified by multiple users, with different setups, is the software update then the software update is the problem. Troubleshooting on these forums by users has been very good. Troubleshooting from Microsoft and their ambassadors has been very poor.

Thank you for the link! I'm also a little disappointed about the continuous suggesting that something is wrong with the hard drive. I really tried everything and based on all the gathered information it was clear to me that the issue was caused by the update - even before all the other cases started surfacing.

That's why I kept disagreeing with that in my previous posts.

The update is the only variable in all cases that I've read that accounts for high capacity hard drives not being recognised. It is shameful for Microsoft to suggest going to the device manufacturer.

If a device has been working perfectly, has not had any updates to it (firmware or otherwise), and suddenly stops working on a Microsoft device that HAS been updated, then the issue is the Microsoft update, not the device.

Microsoft - you need to recognise your software failure and provide a fix. It is YOUR update that has caused the issue.

Alright, Mortandos. In this case, I will be rerouting you to the Microsoft Community in that this can be checked and investigated further since we have performed all the necessary steps.

Kindly stay on this line and please stay healthy and safe. Hoping for an immediate fix for your external hard drive.

I totally understand where you're coming from, . Just like you, I am also an Xbox Gamer and all I want is for you to use the external hard drive again along with others that are experiencing the same issue. I would really appreciate it if you can reset it again keeping your games and apps.
Ok, why not. After doing another reset the result was the same: It actually shows up after the reset, I chose "media" and then it simply disappears. Something in the settings during this factory reset remains and is blocking it. Side note: Yesterday this HD worked on my sons Xbox while I was testing today his Xbox also doesn't recognize it anymore.

This is clearly a Xbox OS issue. I'm repeating myself here but look around this and other post(s), all those people with the same problem with at least 3 different manufacturers?
