Why Is My Console Banned? ERROR CODE: 0x80a40020

Hello Microsoft,

Today after I got off work I came home to hop on the Xbox with the boys. We normally play Tom Clancy’s Rainbow 6 Siege, Rocket League, or 2k. I have never been banned on Xbox ever and I came home to the surprise of my Xbox being console banned. (Epic Swag) Then I went to my Xbox app to see if I could join my friends party. Wow my account is not banned. Then later called Xbox support waited for a kind man named Emanuel to tell me to check the enforcement(dot)xbox(dot)com website and then login to try and figure out why I was banned. Turns out there is a strike system with a total of 8 strikes each strike leading to more days banned. On that website I looked at how many strikes I saw and you’re not going to believe it. There were ZERO strikes. What do you know my Xbox thought it was Halloween early and dressed up as a brick. At this point I’ve been on the phone with Emanuel for 2 hours been on and off of hold. I was really glad he kept thanking me for my patience and that he was going to help me. He asked me what error code was on my screen when I tried to login. I told him (0x80a40020) he said that he’s never seen this error code before and that he was going to look it up. At this point I’ve lost it I’m almost positive that the thousands of dollars over the last 7 years of my Xbox account are in the shredder. He goes over what the error code means and tells me “there’s no way to help you with this issue because you have ZERO strikes and no way to appeal it. I’m sorry but I’ve never seen anything like this before.”. I then asked if I could at least get a replacement Xbox series X to replace the one that just got banned. He then stated that “there is not a way to prove that I had not done anything to be banned and that I had to have been banned for a reason.” At this point in furious because I’m guilty for something that has no name or any reason for me to understand why I’m banned. I’m being punished for something we have no idea to what happened. There’s no evidence I did anything wrong so I’m guilty until proven innocent. Microsoft please do something to help me I know your a huge company with a lot of problems and this might be small to you. But an explanation of why I was banned would at least make some of this confusion go away. I’m a loyal customer I’ve had the Xbox ultimate PC and Xbox Game Pass for 7 years now. I do believe that there’s a mistake.

Reasons Why Your Console Could Be Banned (COPY & PASTED):

An Xbox device suspension is only issued in extreme cases and for the most serious of violations. Here are a few of the reasons that a device suspension or ban is issued:

Xbox console tampering, such as physically opening an Xbox console and modifying the hardware to play illegitimate or unauthorized software
Online fraud, such as phishing, account theft, or other attempts to defraud Microsoft or other players
Repeated and serious violations of the Microsoft Services Agreement that establish a clear pattern of nefarious activity

I find this funny because they are supposed to send you a message on the Xbox they just bricked. And I don’t have any messages from XBOX ENFORCEMENT!

I’m Still BANNED:

No email has been received yet on why I was banned. I’ve done research on what possibly could have happened. I think that the whole Xbox community should know about this “Xbox Party Tool”. There’s a tool that allows people who have the Xbox Gaming Bar on their Xbox to join parties and gather a whole bunch of information about other players and their accounts. It also allows them to trap people in parties by glitching out their leave party button, pull ip addresses, ban accounts, steal account information (like credit cards). I’ve seen recently that you can buy this “Xbox Party Tool” for as low as $5 on the internet. My console is fried completely banned off the internet because some kid bought a $5 Xbox Destroyer. I think there needs to be more people who see this video in the XBOX ENFORCEMENT TEAM OR DEVS.

So I have to buy a new Xbox for no reason. That link you sent me showed me nothing that had to do with why my account got banned. I’m still confused on why my Xbox turned into a brick. Please direct me to information that attends to me not the public.

You can find information about console bans at https://support.xbox.com/en-US/help/family-online-safety/enforcement/xbox-live-device-bans but there is no way to contact the enforcement team regarding them.

The strike system only applies to an account and not a console. It's still possible to have a console ban while an account has no strikes.
