Why is MS buying Mojang?

Survival mode is a predefined idea. No reason you can't play something similar with a Lego set. How many of the games you played with others kids when you were young were 'tower defence' games for example.

Just because it is digital, does not mean it is a new idea.

Again. I am not saying Minecraft is a bad game.

Compare MC to Lego all you want but it's clear that the two aren't that similar. It's like when people call Terraria a MC clone because you dig and build, as if MC invented it.

 

Maybe they bought it for something the general public has no knowledge of. Sure they made MC but they are quite capable of making other games.

Not that I agree with a price tag of 2bil though.

 

Let me summarize. I don't know why but Notch stated once he was being 'physically being damaged' or 'mentally being damage' a while ago. I don't know why. He and Jeb left Mojang and Microsoft swept in bidding and winning in the end with a price of 2.5 billion
on that mothertrucker that is a company, Mojang,, Notch split the money between him and Jeb. Notch then stated that he'll keep on testing games out and making indies and if they get popular he will abandon them as he did with Minecraft. I think this decision
is dumb. If you have any more info on why he left. Please tell me! So I can understand more of this story.

As for Notch, it's a personality thing. Some people have an obligatory personality where something takes off unexpectedly and suddenly your faced with pleasing a bunch of people without ever having thought of how. If it's your nature to please people then
this is a pretty stressful way of having to do it. Obviously, I don't know Notch's thoughts but it makes sense. He doesn't see in the mirror what millions see him as and for some people that's uncomfortable. Maybe he misses his old life, it'll never be
the same but his great great notch's won't have to work.

I have no idea but can't help but wonder if it's a case of "the lottery ruined my life "

I'm sure MS wouldn't make an investment like this without some reasonable chance at gain and profit.

A Minecraft movie? Then again I didn't think the Lego Movie would be any good and that turned out to be brilliant (didn't really care for the 'human' parts of it though.)

 

^It's funny, I was thinking of this Minecraft conversation the other day when I heard that Lego will more than likely be making Lego specific movies, like 'Lego Batman Movie'

and this is, what? 60 years after Lego originally came out? Who's to say that Minecraft won't have another boom of popularity at some stage, especially when it's engrained into a generations up bringing.

Most of us would have played with the physical blocks and now it's all digital, so maybe there will be history repeating itself at some stage. Ok, I'm going to stop over-thinking this now, though quite interesting to think about.

 

Two of them are set to release (Lego Chima, I think) in 2016 and Lego Batman in 2017 ... plus The Lego Movie 2 in 2018.
