No, but missing the point of the thread, does. The family plan was $99. Now it's $240. I understand that you can shop around for better deals but at the end of the day the price went up $150. How and why would anyone defend that? Microsoft is a billion dollar
company. I dare you to explain why the need for the price increase. Especially when Nintendo and Sony charge nothing.

Worth noting: I love my 360 as much as I love my PS3 and Wii U but I also have a brain in my head and I can't defend or justify the rich getting richer.......just because they said so. I'll now sit back and await KINGVAS's delusional response in which he
talks about wiping his rear end with his endless supply of money and those who don't enjoy throwing their money out the window are just peasants living under a bridge.

 

The price hasn`t gone up at all, the price for individual accounts on the dashboard have always been $60.

The only thing that has happened is the family plan has been removed,that offered you a discount.

Once again,it was removed over a year ago,you had more than enough time to find cheaper alternatives than buying off the dashboard.

 

I feel ya Owen. I wasn't even really referring to you, per se. You're a pretty level headed poster. I just don't understand the need to raise the price on the family plan or take away the value all together. They're Microsoft for christs sake. The last time
I checked they were ranked in the top 50 on the fortune 500. Sony ranks significantly lower and Nintendo isn't even on the list. They aren't hurting financially so why the price raise. Why even charge at all? Microsoft is so profitable, the former CEO just
bought the Los Angeles Clippers for $2 billion dollars. Yet they still feel the need to charge $50 dollars a month for Xbox Live. I've never understood that.

Its certainly not from giving their product away.

I actually think once microsoft have got enough sales on the xbox one,they will apply the same offer to the 360,by only needing one gold per console.

 

Just because it happened last Summer means nothing........ I was able to renew right as they announced it, mine goes out end of August dammit and now Im peeved too. Shop arounds ***, lol! That may be the only choice now but doesn't mean it sucks any less.
I have heard rumors though of something they are going to do similar to the Family Account. We get family accts. because everyone isn't always glued to the controller for hours every day and its a waste of hard earned dollars to pay full amnt for everyone
when they play a couple hours maybe a week which made the Family Plan perfect for this house.....

 

I know how rich people get rich. Why don't Sony and Nintendo use the same justification? That's the root of the OP's complaint. Why would you defend Microsoft in that regard? Using your logic, every company on the face of the planet should just arbitrarily
raise the prices on their products.............because it's Wednesday and "how else are we supposed to make money." I understand how inflation works and why it exists but this isn't a case of inflation. If it was then you'd see Sony and Nintendo doing the
same thing. Yet you don't. Why? is the question. The answer most people come up with is greed and it's not far off. As a consumer and not a shareholder, why would you support that? Doesn't make sense to me.

You can get close to the same discount by shopping around, anyone that pays the full amount on the dashboard is just insane.

No, FEIH. Read the entire thread from beginning to end. Me and Owen are having a friendly discussion. Sony does charge but you can still play online for free. Playstation+ just nets you free games each month which compared to Microsoft is the inferior deal.
At least when you pay for Xbox Live you get to keep the games. Playstation+ free games disappear once you cancel your membership. You just need to weigh your options. Do you want free online or 2 games per month that you get to keep forever. My argument is
for the vanilla service of both. Sony's vanilla service gives you free online and no free games. Microsoft's vanilla service gives you no online and no free games. Microsoft has the better pay service.....hands down. My argument throughout this thread is if
the family plan price was good enough then, why not now? And if the other 2 can give you free online, why can't Microsoft?

 

@Owen- by removing the discount package they indirectly raised the price of having multiple accounts in the same household, which apparently meant something to some people. The OP, for example.

 

Indirectly yes, but technically they haven`t.

The games on playstation plus don`t disappear when you unsubscribe,you just lose access to them until you resubscribe.

Microsoft are doing the exact same thing with the xbox one games for gold.

 

Are they? I don't have a One yet. I wonder why they just don't just keep the same deal going for One owners as they do with 360 owners. Still a great thing for One players all the same. As far as Playstation+ vs Xbox Live free games, the key word for me
is forever. I no longer have gold and I still play all the free games. Pretty freakin sweet and just like MS should take ques from Sony and Nintendo on some things, Microsoft is the winner in this regard.

 

walmart always has some killer deals that bundle a yr with hardware making it cheap. last one we did was a new wireless controller and a yr for $70,

 

I do believe Microsoft are a ripoff. you pay for a game. then you need xbox live to play online(which isn't cheap). then u have to pay to download game content, maps, extras etc, with Microsoft points, and that's not cheap either.

I am tempted to convert to Sony, but as I have accumulated so many games and the console itself with all the controllers and accessories, id never get enough money back to get a playstation

 

I agree. XBL should be on a per-console basis, not per-account.
