    Why Is It Impossible to Exchange the Same Game for the Same Price on Xbox?


    I’ve been using Microsoft products and games for many years, but it’s surprisingly easy for them to push loyal customers away. I recently bought Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition as a gift from Microsoft Korea. If you look at the game page, you can see “Xbox Live” clearly written on the game thumbnail. After I sent the gift, the person who received it told me they couldn’t play the game on their Xbox console. Later, I found out that this game has a separate PC version and Xbox version. The version labeled “Xbox Live” on the thumbnail turned out to be the PC version. I admit that part may have been my mistake, so I accepted that. However, both I and the recipient contacted Microsoft support to ask for an exchange to the Xbox version of the same game at the same price. We were told that this was not possible. I honestly cannot understand why exchanging the same game for the same price is not allowed. This wasn’t even a refund request. The game was never downloaded or used at all. To put it simply, it’s like asking to exchange an unopened product with a receipt for the exact same product at a store—and still being refused. Experiences like this make me hesitant to purchase Microsoft products in the future, especially when even such a basic exchange seems impossible.

    Thank you for reaching Microsoft Xbox Forum support. You can definitely request a refund for a game; However, you won't be able to exchange it with another game. To request a refund on the game, please access http://xbox.com/refunds and
    sign in with the account and then select "Request a refund for a digital purchase" after that, manually check the orders for purchase and Choose the reason the most suitable for your request.

    The refund department takes up to 72 hours to respond and the money takes three to 5 business days to go back to the account.

    It is upto the retail stores what they set it as

    Because online stores are direct from the publishers they control the price
