Why is everything so slow? (Dashboard)

Since the dashboard update: (the one that made messages snap) everything is running horribly slow.

If i'm in a game and I get a message, I'll hold the xbox button to open the message as it pops, and it takes about 45 seconds to a minute to open it. (Not just for the first message, but for EVERY message in the conversation).

Same with achievements. An achievement unlocks, I hold the xbox button to open it and it takes about a minute to open.

This is horrible, it's actually quicker to fire up my laptop and type the message than to wait for it to open on my Xbox. It's the worst it's been since the X1 was launched (for me personally), and it's so much slower and more frustrating to use than the
360 ever was.

I've cleared my cache several times, and I've also had a friend complain of the same thing.. so I'm wondering why I'm not seeing anything else about this on the forums? Surely I'm not the only one experiencing this?

So far for me, things like this (should be relatively simple to get right, it's merely a messaging system), and then problems with the Blu Ray player being out of sync, and not launching with 3d capabilities (yes we have it now, but i've not tried it to
see what problems it has - it's bound to have some). Also i'm still yet to play a game that has blown me away to be honest (but that's another story) is just making me think what is happening here?

My 'next gen' experience is turning out to be very underwhelming, and I bought on day 1. Surely it's not too much to expect it to run smoothly enough to use without getting frustrated at how slow it is?

New Dashboard (Dec 2011)

Gosh I hate these forums. Why is everything so difficult to do.

Why can't I space out the lines?

 

Everything is black!

Everything on my Xbox One is black. All my games still work fine, but for some reason i can no longer put a background theme on my dashboard. And The browser barely works at all because when i get on it, the black blacks out most of the page. What is happening
with this and how can i fix it?

 

Have you done a hard reboot lately? By holding the Xbox button on the console down for 8 seconds?

 

Yeah, I've done the reboot several times.

 

The Xbox One UI/OS is slow.

You don't see people complaining about it because I think they get used to it. I spend all day on a fast PC so I'm used to apps and programs opening quickly so for me going to the One dashboard is night and day.

I have noticed over the last couple updates my One Guide is loading significantly slower. I don't check achievements in game for the exactly the reason you stated. Hopefully it'll get better optimized over time.

 

@Randver yeah I noticed the One Guide has been pretty slow also. @ShowBizMonkey have you even tried unplugging from the wall for a minute or two?

My system typically runs pretty smooth going from games to TV to YouTube but once I start using the friends list it does slow down a little but that may be possible because of slow internet.

 

My notifications open pretty quickly in a few seconds, certainly not anywhere near 45 seconds to a minute.

 

@Spiff McGee I havn't tried unplugging it from the wall, I'm trying that right now as I type this.

I'm running 30 meg internet so it shouldn't be a problem my end.

Typically it's not so bad just calling up friends list etc, but to actually open a message and reply to it is quite painful with how long it takes. Same with achievements as already mentioned.

@Randver I certainly hope it's not a case of having to 'get used to it'. We're a year into the life of the X1 and for me personally it's still not even close to being as smooth as the 360 was. This is the next gen leap that I took. In reality I can send
messages quicker on my phone (and probably quicker by pigeon).

I understand things take time and will evolve as time goes on, but when it's painfully slow to the point that it's almost un-usable then we have a problem.

 

My XB1 UI pretty fast. Make sure your closing apps you not useing or plan on. The most it took for me is 10 sec to open a app.Not no 45 sec. If it keeps up i would call tech support and see if they can help.

UI needs lots of more imporvemnts.

 

I'm not seeing the 45 to 60 second delays. Slow yes but not even close to being that slow so you may have another issue.

My One Guide can take 15 to 20 seconds to open at times. In the past checking achievements and messages could also take that long which is why I stopped doing it.

It could be your ISP's DNS, I know on the 360 switching to the Google DNS made a significant improvement for lots of people. I have TWC so it could actually be part of my problem, it just hasn't annoyed me enough to test the theory yet.

 

I just timed mine doing various actions such as opening friends, messages, etc. It never took more than 3-5 seconds for me...

 

Double tap press right read messages takes me 3 secs 5 top fast for me

 

I just tested mine and I'm actually faster than GG at the moment.

Is it an ISP issue at times? Accessing MS Cloud issue? MS servers? I don't know. Why it comes and goes is strange.
