Why is everyone blaming Xbox?

So I've seen in the news and heard in the forums that people are really annoyed because Xbox Live got downed by a DDoS attack from Lizard Squad over Christmas. People are demanding compensation, etc etc, and just generally directing their fury at Microsoft.

WHY?

Xbox Live got DDoS-ed by Lizard Squad! It's not Microsoft's fault. I don't see why people are blaming them. The circumstances were out of their control. They got hacked! They didn't just decide to switch off Live.

What else annoys me is Lizard Squad. This bunch of losers have nothing better to do with their time than to ruin other people's Christmases. That's not cool, that's not funny, that's not
L33T. That's just boring. Stupid. Pointless. Even worse, they're crap at it. A DDoS? Come on! If you're gonna call yourself an elite hacking group, do it properly! I've got an app on my old phone that could execute a packet data DDoS attack, and
my old phone was a complete pile of steaming **** (Samsung Galaxy Y, don't get it. I actually upgraded to a Nokia N97 Mini because it was, by far, a better phone. Anyway...). A DDoS isn't for hackers, it's for 12-year-olds with nothing better to do.
I'm sure Lizard Squad feel like big-boys, as they sit in a circle eating pizza and pretending to have half a life between them, but they're not.

So in conclusion, stop directing your fury at Microsoft. Direct it at Loser Squad. Even direct it at me, on this forum, for writing this. Just stop blaming Xbox.

Xbox One NETFLIX issues.

Netflix is blaming Fios. Fios is blaming Netflix.

I called and Netflix tried a few things and to no previal. Maybe it's just the App.

@Tatakai Wow your comprehension skills are lacking. I'm not blaming gamers. I'm blaming everyone equally. Also RE5 versus mode was lame and not worth it. Even if it was free lol. Nobody should have brought that crap anyway.

 

I think anytime people get restricted from accessing what they've paid for, it is a natural reaction to blame the company. "Why couldn't you have done something to prevent this?!"

I think the vast/silent majority understand what has happened and has been very patient with them fixing it and getting things "back to normal".

It's also an issue of people just not understanding exactly what happened. They just knew they got up on Christmas and couldn't play so automatically, to them, it's an issue with Xbox.

 

Compensation, plain and simple.

We live in a world now of people wanting compensation for every little thing that happens to go wrong in life.

They wouldn`t be happy with the $1 worth of time they lost online, they want free games or something else of a much higher value than they lost.

 

I don't understand it either . It wasn't like it was down for days and days or over a month.

 

Actually I think Microsoft is at least partly to blame not for the attack but for the reaction of its customers to the attack.

Why you ask its simple. Microsoft took all the great things about the xbox 360 and ripped it out then told everyone that here is your next cough gen cough 900p cough console. Then forced all critical features like achievements just to name one to always
online or online only. Lets also not forget that if you got an Xbox One for Christmas you couldn't even use it as you have to connect to xbox live before you can even use your brand new console simply because they were too lazy or the OS too buggy to install
the last known firmware at the time of manufacture.

I almost forgot if you just bought a game and you are unaware that xbox live is down meaning you can sign in but nothing else works and that game detects that there is an update for that game but the update refuses to download then you are now unable to
play that new game you just bought from the store until xbox live starts to work correctly again.

Lets not forget the whole Xbox one game cloud processing issue which I will not bother to go into here.

Needless to say we pay for a service that demands all of the above from us but does not work correctly half the time so we have a right as customers to direct our fury at Microsoft. EA Games just learned a valuable lesson about demanding always online with
their newest version of simcity and were forced to develop an offline game mode patch so that there customers can play the game offline. The internet is not ready for always online especially since net neutrality got shredded and thrown out the window. With
many Internet service providers either throttling the speed of their users or even going as far as port blocking or other forms of interfering with their users internet traffic.

Now I am not saying that Microsoft is the only one to blame here in this case im just saying that Microsoft deserves some of our fury right along side the loser squad.

 

There is nothing at all impressive or difficult about executing a ddos attack. It's really nothing more than bombarding an online service with traffic and overloading it. It was childish, foolish, and will hopefully be an expensive lesson for those that
instigated it.

Thanks for everyone who replied to this forum, I think it's really interesting to see other people's views, and I find myself agreeing in most or in part to many of the replies here. Though I'm not quite sure what Obama had to do with it

 

PS: Before this I was quite proud of having 6000 gamerpoints on my Microsoft account (not this one, waiting 30 days to switch profiles to this account...). Looking at some of the numbers here though... Wow.

 

Had no problems with XBL here in the UK, played every day no problems what so ever.

 

If the flu, weather, cavities, serial killers and road rage is Obama's fault, I'm pretty sure the XBL outage was as well.
