Why in hell is there even a chance of corruption on downloads?

Ok, the first time i downloaded Overwatch, it was fine; i played for a couple of days and it was fun. After those couple of days, a new update came out that completely destroyed my game with black screens and missing objects and HUDs not loading in. Despite
all my efforts on avoiding re-installation, i was FORCED to (there was no fix and blizzard weren't going to make a patch for us few with these problems).

The second time was pretty funny actually, the game just wouldn't load, AT ALL. So the smart choice of action was to do what i was told in every circumstance, "JUST RE-INSTALL, IT LIKELY HAS BEEN CORRUPTED". So i did, hoping that it would work.

Now is the third time, the God forsaken third time, i'm absolutely annoyed. The game's FULLY INSTALLED, but the Xbox has decided that it needs to "download an additional 1 gb". But every time it starts this download AN ERROR POPS UP AND WILL NEVER LET THE
DOWNLOAD STAY DOWNLOADING. Keep in mind that my internet is somewhat slow and that it's been a course of a week.

I know that Xbox couldn't possible EVER fix this, this is just a nice little 'you're not alone' story for anyone having to deal with this.

@Mystic Shrew I think their whole online strategy with DRM and suchlike rests on how many people they can convince always being online to access the "infinite power of the cloud" is worth it. Anyone with a bit of technical nous will know that while yes it
is theoretically possible, for the stability of games, given the uncertainties of Internet connections it might not actually be any good, or even offer any real performance boost. It's marketing twaddle though, and people often lap up a good marketing campaign
if it is backed with lots of money. I can already vision the Xbox One fanbois on Digital Foundry articles complaining that it's not fair that they're slating the Xbox One version of a game over the PS4 version. Because where they live the infinite power of
the cloud makes it look so much better on Xbox One, Digital Foundry must have a sucky internet connection, ha lame. It'll be nonesense, but they'll say it.

like watching a the Fast and the Furious 6 on bluray. We'll all know though that deep down they'll be fuming about it and will have possibly kicked a puppy or two. Thing is, with Xbox One you appear to be basically leasing your console off of Microsoft, and
renting your games. There is no ownership of the product, no control over how you choose to use it. Because Microsoft and their partners want to control the experience for you, and squeeze every last penny from you for the privilege. Maybe that's the way the
world is going, but right now neither Nintendo or Sony appear to be going that way, and for those consumers who properly inform themselves, rather than falling for marketing spiel (from all parties) they'll be able to weigh up the pro's and con's of Xbox One.
Currently the only pro is the controller looks good.

 

Game updates are provided by the game developer and will occur as often as they make updates for their own games.

If you're using a wireless connection on your Xbox, see about switching to a wired connection. Wireless if convenient but not always consistent.
