Why I'm against a diskless Xbox

I just lost the license to play NBA 2k16. I got it a few years ago digitally, and played it just a few days ago (last week). I tried playing it yesterday and kept getting an error message, so I uninstall/reinstalled it after a hard reset hoping that would
solve the problem.

Nope. Now I get the message "Do you own this game or app?" (Duh, I obviously do!) I tried everything from hard reset to factory reset. Nothing worked.

I even checked my billing and it's listed from a few years ago.

So I went to Gamestop and got a disk copy of the game. That worked. Now if I try to play it without the disk, I get a message that I need to insert the disk.

This has been very frustrating for me, especially since it's my favorite sports title this generation.

If my Xbox One had no disk drive, I never would've been able to resolve my situation, which is why I hope I never have to buy a console with no disk drive.

"Ready to start" popped up so I held down the guide button and it loaded right up.

I think my problem was that I never got the "Ready to Start" notification, and getting the notification for another game triggered it for NBA 2k16.

Problem solved.

The driveless system will be geared for those that want a cheaper console and who will be playing a lot of Gamepass and digital games. MS will certainly have at least one SKU with a disc for the forseeable future and have said there will be at least one
version with one for next gen.

You will be always right if you let people choose, so if Microsoft will do two models ( one diskless and one not ) everyone wll be happy.

I had this same problem and went back and forth with them. In the end a facorry reset solved the issue. Have you tried that?

I did everything I can think of including factory reset. I'm on with them now.

This is the only game giving me this problem. If it was Madden I wouldn't have cared since all current gen Maddens are the same and I have them all digitally except 25, 19 and 13. But NBA 2k16 is my favorite sports game this gen.

When it gives you the option for the virtual assistant you should see a link directly under it that either says no, thanks or more options. Click that to be given the other options with include chatting with support or requesting a call. If you don't see
those options, you'll need to change your topic.
