Why has Microsoft started assigning gamertags instead of making you change your gamertag if ...

KindKitten I feel your pain, the one they assigned me to cause me to start this thread was something with flower in it.

Criosphinx, the gamertag that caused the last change had the word *** in it, which I am sure the mod will remove again because we cant be adults here with adult words. My first gamertag was not offensive at all but someone complained and I was forced to
change it. You are missing the point of the Kitty's post. The Offensive word "***" I used is still able to be added to a gamertag, I used over 10 variations of it before they started charging. If it is so offensive the word should be banned. Instead they will
let you create a new tag then charge you when someone complains. More money for M$. Sony will add words to the banned list when they take a gamertag.

I know everyone is different and I could see someone complaining about your tag because I see sphincter abbreviated in your tag. I wouldn't complain but just wait someone will. It happened to me.

 

Yes I agree you cant be adults, younger gamers use this service as well and not deemed appropriate. Your own fault if it gets force changed really.

 

It is really quite simple. If you don't want to pay a charge, don't make a choice in gamertags that isn't appropriate for all ages, it's not science. Just because you are adults doesn't grant you freedom of choosing any words you please in a all ages community.

 

Wow, you fan boys are all alike, if you don't like it don't do it. There are many pay services that offer adult and children's content. Most of them do things the right way and that is offer tools to lock out anything they deem offensive and that way those
that want to feel free to express themselves can and those that are easily offended can choose not to. M$ just chooses instead to be the moral majority and make those decisions for us. Yet they allow children with profiles that clearly show their ages as under
16 play adult rated games. Why is it so important to block an offensive gamertag but not to keep age appropriate materials from under age gamers? Because they lose money if those kids are not playing games, no matter what the age restrictions are for that
game.

Of all the fanboy responses posted none of them have shown a valid reason this is a fair and valid policy and I find it laughable that it is still being commented on so long after my original post. Maybe I will log on tonight and file a complaint that I
find Criosphinx offensive and you can come back and show us what lovely name the M$ gods pick out for you. Because I'm sure it will be fitting of your high moral standards.

 

Yes I am sure you probably would be spiteful enough to file a complaint, but thanks for publicly sharing on the forums about a complaint you want to.file through.spiteful reasons, good luck though, when will you realise that picking gamertags without words
people may find offensive will get it forced and yet still expect a meal ticket when you don't wish to.pay, either way go troll someone else, no one has to give you a reason. Because one really isn't needed, when will people also realise that trying so hard
for a laugh with a gamertag is a bit pointless, if you haven't worked out by now that what you find funny will get you banned, then I am really shocked, enjoy the gaming!

 

Yes children do play games that are not age appropriate for them, but they could also have parental consent or supervision in playing them. After all they aren't old enough to buy the games, so maybe the ones reporting your offensive tags are concerned parents.
In the end this whole topic is a bit ridiculous, so this will be my last reply. But thanks for the delightful conversation.

I guess the best thing to do when choosing a gamer tag in the future is to stop and think "could this offend anyone at all?" After all it has been mentioned "it only takes one complaint, one person to get offended" be cautious with what you choose, because
although it wont offend everyone, it may offend some. I leave my bio blank because some people could take anything the wrong way for what ever reason, and I don't think id like to take any chance in that. Good luck.

 

Really how can I troll a post that I started, you chimed in on someone else comment who was agreeing with my original post. That would make you the troll. As far as complaining. You know nothing about me or who I am and there are a million legit reasons
I may find your gamertag offensive. If I choose to file a complaint this post will mean nothing, all I have stated is that I find your gamertag offensive and I may complain about it. You are the one who called me spiteful and a troll. Maybe in the complaint
