Why every console vendor's "One Box To Rule Them All" concept never works.

Historically, I have always owned an Xbox and a PS. I haven't owned just one console, ever. However, the Xbox has always been my primary console of choice, for most multi-platform games. This is proven by my amount of unlocked achievements, as opposed to
    PS trophies, which is...minimal.

Anyway, I really tried to remain console loyal for at least one lifecycle, but I'm starting to realize that there are games on the other side that I want to play; Killzone, No Man's Sky and Order 1866(just to name a few). Xbox has always been my primary
"go-to..." at least, for those periods where my PC hardware was out of date, or I was engaged in a PC-based MMO at the time.

I can't help, but to recall a line from the TV program IT Crowd, where Roy, the IT guy, asks this girl that he wants to date, "You own both consoles!!! Why do you own both consoles???" and she replies with "...gosh, I should dread if a game I wanted to
play came out for one and not the other...wouldn't you think?" ...."I do think!!!"

EXLUSIVITY! It is the thing that destroys the gamer's wallet and yet, drives us to buy a console. This is why you can't just own one console.

No Man's Sky, Order 1866, Killzone...I itch to play these and they are Sony exclusive...and KZ has been out since launch...not to mention, I have played all of the previous ones. Also, Destiny gets special DLC treatment on the PS, for an entire year and
to me, that's the same as saying it is "permanently exclusive" content, as I challenge any gamer to play one game for a whole year...at best, I'll play it for an equivalent of 6 months(otpimistically), and I'll be lucky to return 2 times within the following
year or two after its launch, namely to check on the latest content/ maps.

    Secondary reason

Of course, there are a mix of other secondary perks; Sony's more consistent 1080p achievement, quality and performance across multi-platform games, non-warranty voiding HDD upgrade ability, the stronger Indie scene, the level of committment and praise coming
from developers which, again, equates to great quality/ performing titles and Sony's overall focus on "gaming" in general. This doesn't mean I turn into a MIcrosoft hater, I'm not 15...I'm just pointing out that it's hard to own just one console, these days.

    :)

You got that right, get them all! Otherwise you'd miss out on a really REALLY great The Last Of Us campaign. I'm sure even a few MS employees picked up a ps4 just to play the remastered edition...it looked absolutely stunning, the story was amazing and
it set a high bar for other game developers out there.

  7. While I know there are great games on the other console, there's plenty on the Xbox One alone that takes up more than enough of my time, so I've accepted that fact and I'm okay with not being able to play those great games on the other console. If you feel
the "need" to buy both consoles in order to have access to all of the great games, then be my guest - it's certainly not my place to stop you. Why every console vendor's "One Box To Rule Them All" concept never works. ;)

Sony Has all these indies to make up for the lack exclusive . MS is killing them in triple AAA games that are exclusive. Sony is turn down the EA deal cause it would destroy PS now there not about the gamer. Their about selling PS4 or they will die. Xbox
one has more 1080p 60 Games than Sony that are exclusive. Forza 5. Halo MCC. Sony Kill zone was lie. Don't make up this BS, to make you feel better about getting a PS4.

Not for me now, I owned both consoles at one time or another since the Nintendo. I did stick with just the Genesis over the Super Nintendo though. And have owned both since then. Not this Generation though. I will own only the Xbox One. They offer nothing
I can not go with out. Uncharted is solid, Last of Us was really good (a little overrated in my opinion), inFamous was fun but inconsistent (you can not create a universe where world importing is integral, and then decide which world is the one "you" will
use for next generation). Killzone 2 and 3 were solid. But nothing to pull me there. Little Big Planet? I am a Little to Big to interact with that game. Destiny's timed DLC? I can wait.

Oh...and I forgot to add Hellblade. I was a huge fan of Heavenly Sword, on the PS.

Both Sony and Xbox have interesting exclusives lined up...it's not just quantity, but the quality of...but I do agree, Xbox does have the killer line up in the foreseeable future; Sunset Overdrive, Quantum Break, Halo 5, Fable, Forza Horizon 2, Gears of
War...so, I'm not saying Xbox is not the place to ultimately be.

I really don't understand these threads. Are you try to get us to buy a PS4 or are you try to justify buying a PS4?

    Hello Graelock.

There is nothing wrong with owning both consoles. I have owned almost every console since the NES and am happy with my decision every time.

By the way "Did you try turning it on and off again" Why every console vendor's "One Box To Rule Them All" concept never works. :) Sorry, I couldn't resist my favorite references from The IT Crowd.
