why download on disc content to xbox one?

I am an emergency after hours road side assistance service guy. I rented a game at 11am on Christmas eve to waist time. It is now 4pm. the game is still not down loaded. I don't understand why I have to down load a game that is on a disc just to play for
single player. I try and stand next to xbox as well as I can although all my friends have switched to play station. The 360 was a great. throw a game in play it and that was that. It would ask if you wanted to update it and you could choose. When you updated
the console or game it take a few minuets. Not several hours. Only time it took that long was if a game was purchased from the store and had to download. But THIS IS ON A DISC AND ITS BEEN SIX HOURS!!!! How am I suppose to tell friends to buy a xbox one if
they are just going have to wait hours on end after buying a $60 game to play? Hard to tell them that. let alone hard to not want to take this thing to a pond shop and go buy a PlayStation now. Microsoft I hope the next console you come out with doesn't have
that B.S. Pretty disappointed in the ONE. Senc I started righting this post the game has still made no progress. FAILL ON XBOX ONE... take that download a disc crap away

No, Im not serious downloading content, thats why I only listed one game I am wanting to download as its available for £15 on xbox live, and over £60 on disc. Surely you're clever enough to work out why I want to download it.

 

Is it possible to know if you played with a Epic employee?

Hey there,

The disc must be installed because of load times - it's a lot quicker to read from the hard drive than from the disc. What's likely causing it to take a long time is that the Xbox is likely downloading and installing updates from the internet at the same
time. Some people report faster install times if you disconnect from Xbox Live (Settings > Network > Go Offline), installing from the disc, and then connecting and downloading/installing the update after (rather than trying to do both at the same time).

For the record, the PS4 has the same issue - games must be installed to the hard drive.

 

Yes the load time on anything bigger then a dvd requires installation this has been since the ps3 and affects all consoles since

Xbox 360 games varied in size and rarely required installation but then you are only talking about 9gigs vs 25-50 gigs on blurry which xbox one and ps 3 and ps4 uses

 

I went and did a call and it is now 9:40 all most a full day and it is not down loaded so much for renting and playing the game to day it was spent rented to watch and download all day... that's how I like to spend my money... NOT

 

Once the game is downloaded you will still need the disc in order to continue playing the game, so not sure of the point of renting? The disc needs to be inserted as a DRM check every time the game is started.

I should add that if you are referring to a backward compatible game being downloaded it isn't downloading the game from the disc in the drive. It is downloading the digital BC version of the game from the Xbox.com store and the disc is just to verify ownership.
Sounds like some other network stuff going on as it shouldn't take more than an hour or so to download 6-7 Gb of data, even wirelessly.

 

Be disk patches aren't 8gig that's only when you download games on demand games
