Why doesn't MS have backwards compatibility for Dolby Vision on older TV's?

And by older I mean like 2 years older. C'mon guys. Was about to go pick up a One X and come to find out my $2,500 OLED set can't do Dolby Vision anymore ONLY on the Xbox platform. Low latency sounds great and everything but I didn't have it before the
update.

Is there something here that would prevent a user option to allow Dolby Vision v1 (or whatever you want to call it)?

Customers can't be expected to drop $2k to upgrade their TV every time you decide to implement a new feature.

Thanks for the update on the inquiry on the Dolby Vision. To start enjoying this feature today, you need a TV that supports
the latest version of Dolby Vision.

To setup this feature, first check if you have a compatible TV by going on your Xbox to the 4K TV Details page under Settings. You can also check the full list of supported TVs here.

Next enable Dolby Vision on your console by navigating to Settings -> Display and sound -> Video output -> Video modes -> Allow Dolby Vision.

Your right that Dolby Vision is better than HDR10, however the differences are marginal at best, and only true TV calibrators will be able to see the difference.

The reason Microsoft went with HDR10 and not Dolby Vision is that HDR10 is open, it doesn't cost anything to make a TV HDR10 compatible, all you have to do is meat the specifications and your good to go.

Dolby Vision on the other hand costs money, the vast majority of cheaper HDR TV's are going with HDR10 and only the more expensive "premium" TV's have Dolby Vision and HDR10.

On a side note, you may want to look at not getting an LG B7/C7 and using it with you soundbar, I've read loads of scare stories of people using these TV's with a soundbar and getting pretty bad lip synch issues, just a warning.

Xbox has updated to a "low latency" version of dolby vision causing issues with most TV's. I have the same issue with my 2018 Vizio P Series.

Once Xbox/MSFT does another update for the Dolby Vision they currently have in use it should support more TV's. There is not garuntee that all TV's will be compatible with 4k Dolby Vision.

I'm extremely annoyed by this too as my new TV is not being used to its full potential.

Hi I have a Xbox series x with a Dolby vision compatible tv also will the allow Dolby vision playback selected in settings on and it still only displays in HDR only when playing 4k blu rays ? I have set it 4k 60hz and the games display in Dolby vision plus streaming apps but not 4k disc playback! Is this correct that the xbox series can’t do this ?
