Why doesn't Microsoft unlock the Indies games on our consoles?

You know, I was thinking about it, and I have to say, the fact that I have sunk about a hundred dollars into the Indie games on the 360 and when the system goes offline I won't be able to play them anymore doesn't make me very happy. I have heard the hooplah
about it being $800.00 for the ESRB to rate the games, but the Ouya has been out for over a year now and most of those games aren't rated by the ESRB and the system doesn't have to have an internet connection to play my games.I have actually been skipping
the indie titles as of late because I don't want to spend money on games I'm not going to be able to play soonish. Just seems like such a waste of money in the end. How hard would it be to unlock the section and allow us to be able to play the games offline?
Not like we can just transfer them to the XBOX One if we get one of those. Yet another reason I am holding off on the system. I'm tired of game companies taking my ability to play games away from me. I love supporting the Indie Developers, but Microsoft is
making it impossible for me to do so. I don't even know how much more time the 360 will be on LIVE, so I buy a game a week before it goes down and I can't beat it because the service is gone. Just seems wrong. Please, someone answer me why they won't unlock
the section.

[/quote]Doubtful. Indie games don't have any classification rating at all. Games need to be rated to be sold in Australia.

I can understand your frustration about the future of Xbox 360 and its support. Xbox have come out and said that they will be supporting their console until 2016. After then, they will probably leave servers up but won't release any new games for the console.
Eventually, they will turn off the console's servers but that won't be at least for another 4 years following 2016. So you are safe to purchase indie games if you'd like but come 2016, expect a drought in them as the console will no longer be supported.

 

I hear what you are saying, and while that is cool to a degree, what if I want to be able to play those games beyond 2016? Even if they only leave the servers up until 2020, that means by that time my Indie games are toast because there will be no internet
connectivity? My point, in the end, is I am a retro gamer driven by Nostalgia. You make new memories, but one of the reasons I buy new stuff and consoles is remembering how much fun I had playing the old stuff or firing up an older title and wondering what's
new with the new console. I am sure I am not the only person who does that. If I fire up my 360 one day, have no internet connectivity so I can't play my indie games at all, that might still irritate me then. Far be it for me to go against the grain, but I
figured that when you pay for the games, you own them, not long term rentals. I was turned off by the DRM thing with the ONE, but am still holding my cards until I know what's going to happen to my Indie games too.

 

I surely can't be the only person who wants to see the Indies section opened up? Surely the developers even would like to see this happen.

 

I agree 100% on the indie games, I have spent a lot of money on them as well And I play them more now adays. I think xbox should at least make them avalable after 2016 or when 360 servers are no more they should have some kind of last update. The way you
kept the games you purchased was a major factor in choosing xbox.

Because Live is still supported on the 360.

When that support ends they may consider removing the DRM, however until then they won't as they have no compelling reason to do so.
