    So I have an Xbox and it's set to output Bitstream with Dolby Atmos. This means any time I'm using my Xbox as a playback device, my Yamaha RX-V781 displays Dolby Atmos on the screen. Whenever it does
    this I can't select any of the Yamaha DSP modes (SciFi, Drama, etc) and I can't change the dialog settings in options (Dialog level, Dialog lift, etc.) This is because Atmos decoding replaces any digital signal processing or options that control dialog and
    renders them disabled. Atmos is basically saying, I know what I'm doing, don't mess with me.

    But here's the problem. When I use any app on the Xbox for playback, such as Disney+, HBO Max, etc. the Xbox will always send a Dolby Atmos signal even if the content being streamed isn't Atmos (which is
    most content these days.) Watching Ad Astra via HBO Max is one example. It shows right on the detailed info in HBO Max for Ad Astra it's 5.1 with no Atmos indicator. This doesn't happen on BluRays, the Xbox switches the audio signal to DTS Surround on Planet
    Earth II for example because it isn't in Dolby Atmos.

    So basically should I put my Xbox in Dolby Digital or Dolby DTS bitstream mode and only change it to Dolby Atmos when I know the source content will be streamed in Dolby Atmos as otherwise I can't use any
    of the DSP programs with non-Atmos content (which is the majority) using any of the streaming apps?

    Apparently I need to "think for it" and constantly look for the audio encoding info shown by the streaming service of whatever I'm about to play then manually change the settings on my Xbox accordingly
    (or just forget about using DSP with my Xbox and leave it in Atmos mode for non-Atmos content.) Pretty lame.

    *maybe* this "problem" is exactly how the Dolby Atmos App on Xbox One X works.

    Dolby Atmos native content? perfect! Dolby Atmos playback.

    No Dolby Atmos? the App upmix current audio track to Dolby Atmos (the headphones features works in this way).

    I don't know if is intentional.

    I am experiencing this as well. Everything comes across the av receiver as Dolby Atmos, even non-Atmos content. Previously the receiver would switch as needed.

    If the game does not support Dolby Atmos, then the audio is normal stereo. Microsoft are working on updating Dolby Atmos, where if the game does not support Dolby, the audio will be converted to simulate Dolby Atmos.

    So after following up with the Dolby Access support team, apparently games aren't supported on home theater, only on headphones:

    "Unfortunately, Games encoded with Dolby Atmos audio are not compatible with Dolby Atmos for Home Theater, as they are specifically configured for Dolby Atmos for Headphones. If the content you are experiencing is not compatible with the app you are
    using, then audio will cease, or will simply output as regular stereo output.

    To clarify, Dolby Atmos for Home Theater is included at no charge with any Dolby Atmos supported hardware, such as a receiver or Xbox One X, and is used to activate Dolby Atmos features via HDMI connection for a Dolby Atmos certified AVR, soundbar,
    or TV."

    "Unfortunately, the version of Dolby Atmos included with your Xbox is Dolby Atmos for Home Theater, which is not compliant with any gaming content."

    It kind of strikes me as hard to believe, or that this won't be addressed, but that's what they're saying for now. That said, it still isn't working for me for Netflix content either, so I'm going continue troubleshooting with them and see what's doable
    and what's not. Fingers crossed.

    I have the same problem, but my Xbox One X pushes Dolby Atmos to non Dolby Atmos movies. Also my Xbox pushes out HDR to non HDR movies. It's very frustrating that the sound cuts in n out even when I play Shadow of The Tomb Raider that's Dolby Atmos. Even
    Avengers Infinity War sound cuts in n out. Since I have a Geek Squad warranty, I took my LG SJ9 to Best Buy. They tested all Dolby Atmos scenarios and never once did they have a problem with the soundbar in Dolby Atmos mode cutting in n out. There's something
    wrong with the Dolby Atmos signal the Xbox One X uses that the SJ9 has problems decoding.
