Why does Xbox on Windows 10 Party Chat REQUIRE Windows Firewall ON and Windows Defender OFF?

So this is a common issue.

Error code 0x807d0106 occurs if:

1) Windows Firewall is DISABLED.

*AND*

2) Windows Defender is ENABLED.

Windows Firewall is a bit deplorable and I hate having it run for any reason.

Windows Defender, while not functionally as useful as when it first came out is still relevant-ish.

Can someone from Microsoft please describe how to allow Xbox Party Chat to work without conditions 1 and 2 needing to be met?

Error code: 0x89231806 Blocking Party chat

Hey, all. For folks hitting this issue on the Xbox App on Windows 10, please try the steps listed here:

Through our investigations we've found a few different issues that tend to pop up on Windows 10 devices with regarding Party Chat:

1. Teredo adapter not functioning normally.

2. Windows Firewall being shut down (sometimes by third party security software), blocking Teredo connectivity.

3. Third party security software blocking Teredo connectivity.

The steps in the link above walk through some workarounds for the most common scenarios we've encountered.

Are you on a wireless or wired connection and is Windows Defender and / or Windows Firewall on?.

I would love to. I'm assuming, then, that there's a feedback button I can click within the Xbox app on Windows 10? If so, I'm not seeing it.

Yes, MrPixelTech. Using the beta app, click the feedback button near the bottom of the menu bar on the left. This button is only found in the beta app, which can be downloaded through the Windows Store.

Hi

The operating system on the Xbox One works slightly differently to Windows 10 and does not require Windows Defender.

Do you have a third party anti-virus and/or Firewall program installed? Like Norton, McAfee, GData and the likes?

If so, try to temporarily disable their Firewall, and let the Windows own Firewall handle your network.

If that works, simply uninstall your Antivirus/Firewall tool. Windows 10 has it's own AntiVirus program "Windows Defender", as well as a Firewall built right in.

And even if you don't trust the Windows Firewall (which you safely can), your Router you use to connect online is already the Firewall that protects you from internet based attacks. Your PC firewall is only there to protect you from attacks already inside
your home network.

And Windows Defender ranks in the best Antivirus solutions on the market as well. So no need to waste money or computing resources on a third party antivirus solution.
