Why does the Xbox One X, while in Instant On mode, shut off the Wired Ethernet interface?

I noticed recently (last few months) that my Xbox One X shuts off the network interface card (Wired Ethernet), even though it is in Instant On mode. This stops me from being able to turn it on with Windows 10 Xbox App.

Monitoring the network traffic, it appears to turn itself back hourly and does what appears to be a check for updates, then shut it off. If I catch it while it is doing its update check, I can turn it on, otherwise, I cannot turn it on with the App.

Is this a new feature to reduce power consumption that turns off the network interface, or is this a bug? Is there a way to prevent the network interface from being shut down to conserve power?

Instant on game updates

on the Xbox one, Xbox one S, and Xbox one X the instant on feature is supposed to allow for the console to perform any updates while the console is off. This feature has not worked in a long while. Games, apps and the console itself does not update while
powered off in this mode.

 

Wired Connection doesn't work

Connected my Xbox One X to my router with an ethernet cable and it will not stay connected to the internet. The wireless works though. However when I hook up my regular xbox one with the ethernet cable, it works fine. Why does my Xbox One X not work with
a wired connection? It can't be my router as every other device I have works with my router, just not my xbox one x wired to it...

just to be sure are you participating in the Xbox Insider Program?

If so then please report this issue via the feedback tool on the console.

If you are not participating in the Xbox Insider program then you could try a factory reset of the console, keep in mind that this requires you to redownload the profile(s) which requires knowing the account credentials.

Make sure “when Xbox is off, turn off storage” is not checked under power and startup.

 

It already is.

 

I m not sure if I am or not, but I don't think so. I don't remember requesting or accepting an invite to the program. I also don't see anything that would allow me to submit feedback.

Factory reset does not appear to have done anything to the behavior of the Xbox One X system.
