Why does the Xbox App installer keep closing?

I've just redeemed 3 months of PC Game Pass and I'm very excited to check it out! As I was going through the sign up process, I was prompted to install the Xbox App, so I downloaded XboxInstaller.exe from https://www.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-game-pass/pc-game-pass.

Every time I attempt to run the executable, it appears to begin normally. However, the loading bar always gets to the point in the image below before it just sits there for a couple of minutes and then closes the window:

The only troubleshooting steps I've attempted so far are to download the executable again and try from that duplicate file, and a reboot of my PC. Is there a way I can install this app on my computer?

Hi Josef,

Thanks for the tips! I did in fact have a Windows Update available, so I went ahead and installed that and rebooted.

However, I don't see an option in the Microsoft Store to download the Xbox App. See below:

I must be missing something. Or this image is missing something underneath the app icon and Microsoft Corporation? It seems like the two white boxes should contain at least one button to download the app.

I also attempted an install with the .exe and achieved the same result as before.

It IS odd, right? I feel like I'm going crazy lol.

Windows Store cache reset and I got the same result in both Windows Store and .exe

Processor is Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-9900K CPU @ 3.60GHz 3.60 GHz

What are your hardware specs? (Processor model)

In the meantime try this
Reset the Windows store cache following steps before:

Step 1: Open the Run window by pressing Windows + R key.

Step 2: Input WSReset.exe in the Run window and click OK.

Step 3: Then a command prompt window will appear. After a few seconds, Windows Store will open
After that try again

This can be a bit odd, but try creating a new local administrator user in your PC and try installing the app from there:

If maybe the issue persist try this:

A. Reinstall the Microsoft store and all it's components

B. Run the SFC tool to find and repair possible system corruptions

C. Perform an in-place upgrade for your system (don't worry your content and apps will remain)

This can be a bit dumb, but may I know if you tried to install the Xbox app using the Microsoft store and not the .exe installer?

If not, before that double check this:

Open Settings, click Update and Security and then Windows Update
Click Check for Updates

Click the Download and Install Now option, if available (Install optional updates as well)

Then open the store and check for any updates on the Xbox apps and its services and update everything too. (Click on get updates)
