    Why does my xbox one s change picture quality on startup of disc based games? I have a 4K UHD ...


    I need help because games like forza horizon 3 and gears of war 4 are degrading the picture quality. It only affects disc based games at the moment. The colours do not look good at all. Even when I press the guide button to go to the home menu the picture
    quality is the same. When I quit the game the picture quality returns to normal.

    Xbox One S doesn't display 4k on Normal Blu Rays it converts 1080p

    This is the exact same behaviour I find.

    I have my Xbox One S set to UHD 4K resolution for my 4K TV and the games and UHD 4K Blu-rays work fine at that resolution but when I pop a DVD or standard Blu-ray disc in, all I get is a postage stamp sized video in the middle of the screen. I am assuming
    that the fault lies with the player software and not the Xbox One S hardware.

    Very disappointing as it means that I can't use the XBox One S to play all my disc based video content on my 4K TV Why does my xbox one s change picture quality on startup of disc based games? I have a 4K UHD ... :(

    Can anyone from Microsoft shed any light as to a potential fix for this ?

    One S 4K playback issues

    So..

    When I hook up One S to my AV receiver I can select uncompressed 7.1 audio. When I play UHD disc Xbox switches back to 1080p.

    When I hook up One S directly to my 4K TV the UHD blu Ray remains in 4K but the audio is on stereo and will not change to anything else?

    is this a Bug as I've tried everything!

    Total system crash on Xbox One S while running a UHD 4K BluRay & no ATMOS or DTS X.

    Dead pool UHD 4k disc does not play on the xbox one s. Goes back to home screen.

    Hey there ricedemon,

    That's an odd issue for sure, one that we've not seen with 4K UHD discs. Which Blu-ray title are you playing that you're seeing this issue? To clarify, are you sure that you're using the 4K UHD disc and not the Standard Blu-ray? Can you share a picture of
    the disc as well? Does the issue happen with all 4k UHD discs you try.

    Unfortunately the Xbox one S is only really capable of maxing out at 1080p UHD. If you want the full 4k HDR experience you'll need the Xbox One X. I dont think there's a way of getting it to run even in 4k UHD on their S. The only 4k you'll get on the
    S is the streaming and video quality.

    Hi Mica,

    The Xbox One S doesn’t support 4K at 120Hz, so your best option would be either 1440p (Quad HD) at 120Hz or 4K at 60Hz. It all depends on whether you want to prioritise the resolution or refresh rate.

    The One S isn’t exactly true 4K - it upscales 1080p, unlike the One X models and above. You should still be able to watch 4K UHD films in native 4K (applies to both Blu-ray discs and streaming services like Amazon and Netflix), though.

    Also keep in mind that some games (FH5 for example) offer optimisation options - quality and performance modes to adjust the visual quality and smoothness. This is all based on personal preference as well.
