Why does my Xbox One keep turning itself back on?

Ok, first of all: The Xbox console has 2 things connected to it. The power supply and the TV. It is not set to instant on and I have tried resetting it and cleaning the whole thing down with a wipe designed for cleaning areas that are about to receive an
injection so its pretty damn clean! The power pack is set as far as possible away from the console as possible without putting any strain on the wires and it has its own plug socket in the wall with no extension leads, no gang adapters and no surge protectors.

There are no updates for anything. I always check when I turn the console on myself

Ive held the power button for 30 seconds and its done nothing to fix the problem

My conclusion is that there is either a design flaw in the console or someone needs to update the software to fix the problem as more than 90,000 people have reported the problem and Im sure we are not all making the same mistake

What is going on and HOW do we really get it fixed?

Hey there Blood Nemesis,

That's an interesting one, we've not seen many reports of that issue happening at all. Is this an original Xbox One model, or an Xbox One S model? If it's an original model, try unplugging the console from the power source and cleaning the power button with
a soft dry cloth to remove any fingerprints or debris and see if that helps.

Sorry for the late reply.

Its an original xbox one and unplugging it was the first thing I did.

I even went as far as to unplug it overnight and as I have already mentioned I have cleaned it thoroughly.

We have 2 original Xbox ones and a Xbox one S. This one xbox is the only one showing this fault

 

Odd, sounds like there is a hardware malfunction then which would need to be addressed. It's hard to say what it may be really. You might also want to try a full

Factory Reset, but make sure to keep your Games & apps. This will refresh the console fully, but you won't need to reinstall any games or apps. Cloud saves are unaffected, but local saves on the console will be removed. When you play a game online again,
you'll see those saves re-synced to your console locally again. You will need to re-sign into any profiles you had on the console again though. That would be something else to try before sending the console in for repairs. You can set that up online

Well, Ive tried the factory reset and its still playing up. I tried to register it for repair and the form refuses to recognise my phone number. It says Invalid phone number (Ive had my number for years so I know it exists

What format does it take the UK mobile phone numbers starting 07?

Interesting thing has happened. Before I got chance to sort out the Xbox one for repair, I installed the system update and forgot to unplug my xbox

That was 2 days ago

It hasnt turned itself back on...yet

I will keep an eye on it but I think the latest update fixed it

If it has and it was intentional then thank you very much

If it was just a happy little accident then thank you anyway

 

Its been 3 days and its started again.

My guess is that if the update had an affect on the problem, it is most likely a software issue with the operating system

I hope this might shed some light on the situation

Maybe you could send out a small update to reset the way the Xbox one powers up?

 

We don't have the ability to do that here, but are you in the Xbox Insider Program currently?

As you mentioned that you dont send out updates, would it be possible to present the idea to the team that does the updates to look at the programming and see if there has been an earlier update that may be in conflict.

Fingers crossed they can find the problem

That's kind of why I was checking to see if you were in the preview program. It's possible there is some sort of hardware issue with the console still, it's just not happening as often. If there was an issue with the software, the factory reset while keeping
games and apps, could resolve that. However, the issue could be with the hardware button, or the touch panel over it.

As a last ditch effort, would it be possible to try another outlet in the house? Also, try to move the console to energy saving mode, if it's not already.
