  1. Why does my Xbox controller only connect via USB cable?

My controller was working fine up until maybe an hour prior to this post. I've updated it, there seems to be no external issue I can see. Whenever the batteries are in it slowly flashes twice like it does when turning on, but then repeatedly cycles that. When connected with a cord it functions fine but none of the controllers in my house will function without a cord now. Is it connection? Can the sensor not find my controller?

    :)

Why does my Xbox controller only connect via USB cable?

    Hello Blake Carroll,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

We understand you are having issues with connecting your controller using wireless connection. Let us help you get to the bottom of this.

To further isolate the issue, I would like to ask a few questions.
    1. Are you using Xbox or PC to connect the controller?
    2. May I know what steps you have tried so far with your Xbox or PC?

For the meantime, you may also try these steps to fix the issue.
If you are using Xbox Console, you may power cycle the console by pressing the power button on the console for 10 seconds, then unplug and plug the power cord.

If you are using Windows PC, you may need to check for Windows Update. Select the Start Windows logo Start button button, and then go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.

We're looking forward to your response.

    Sincerely,

Why does my Xbox controller only connect via USB cable?

    Hello Blake Carroll,

Thank you for your response and I appreciate you doing the troubleshooting steps ahead. Based on the details you provided it appears that the issue is with the Xbox console Bluetooth connection.
I recommend you try the following steps however if the steps fail, it would be best for you to send the console for repair. You may create a repair order by going to Microsoft account | Devices.

    You may try these steps.

    1. Press the Xbox button  to open the guide.
    2. Select Profile & system > Settings > System > Console info > Reset console.
    3. On the Reset your console? screen, Select Reset and keep my games & apps. Use this option as your first choice when troubleshooting. It will reset the OS and delete all potentially corrupted data without deleting your games and apps.

    I hope it helps.

    Sincerely,

Why does my Xbox controller only connect via USB cable?

I'm having the issue with my Xbox series S. I've tried reconnecting the controller, I tried using my friends controller which did the same thing. I replaced the batteries, and cleaned the inside connectors. I went through the trouble shooting list and did pretty much everything it suggested.

My xbox one s controller is dead

Can you try to connect the controller via USB cable to check if it is a battery issue? Does the controller work with a Micro USB data cable?

Be aware, that a lot of phone charging cables only connect the power connectors, but not the data lines. So a phone charging cable might not work.

If you can connect an USB card reader or a small hard drive with that cable to a PC, then you can use that USB cable to connect your controller to your console for testing.

    Greetings.

The Elite V1 does not support bluetooth. It can only connect to a computer using an Xbox Wireless USB Adapter stick, and that's what the sync button on the controller is for. You can however still use the controller via USB cable.
