Why does my Xbox 360 E power supply immediately turn from orange to green back to orange...

Please try the steps below one at a time to resolve the issue.

Solution 1: Check your power supply cables.

Unplug the cables from the back of your console, the power supply, and the wall outlet.

Plug the power cables firmly back into your console, the power supply, and the wall outlet.

Make sure to plug your console directly into a wall socket. Don’t use a surge protector or an extension cord.

Press the power button on your console.

Solution 2: Try a different power supply.

If you have access to another Xbox 360 power supply, try using that power supply with your console. This will help determine whether the problem is with the power supply or the console itself.

Note Not all power supplies work with all Xbox 360 consoles. Don’t force a power supply plug into your console.

If the above steps doesn't sort out the issue, I would highly recommend reaching out to a near repair center near your area to have the console repaired since the service website doesn't accept repair services for Xbox 360 consoles anymore.

Is the orange light on the power supply solid?

When the XBox is off, the power supply light is orange. But when the XBox is turned on and working fine, the power supply is lit up with green. If the light is orange, it usually means a hardware problem with the XBox (like a broken disc drive, for example).
Before sending it in for repairs, try step 2 and if you can, step 3 below.

Is the orange light on the power supply flashing?

Step 1: Try plugging the power cable into a different plug socket. If the orange light turns to any other color than green or flashing orange, there is a good chance that your power supply needs replacing.

If the color turns anything other than green, also try this:

Step 2: Turn the XBox off and then unplug all the cables from the power supply starting with the one leading from the plug socket. Let it rest for up to 10 minutes before plugging it back in, making sure that every cable is in place, and

Step 3: If you have access to a second power supply from the same version XBox (for example from a second XBox or a friend), try plugging it in and turning the XBox on. If the XBox comes on without a problem, you will need to buy a replacement
power supply.

If none of this helps, and even the alternative power supply lights up in orange with your XBox but works with its original machine, then your best option is to send it in for repairs. If your XBox is still under warranty the repairs should be free.

Just to clarify something: when I turn on the console, the power supply led is green for a second, and then is back to orange.

Now I'm not really sure if that counts as "it's green, you've to repair the console", or "it's orange, you need a new power supply". So I'm more confused than before
